Halloween Night
"For a change it was a dark and stormy night..."
Catherine started out in a somber voice as she passed the flashlight
to Greg who was sitting on the floor next to her in the darkened
break room.
It was two o'clock in the
morning, and, as Sara pointed out, it was the original witching hour.
Being on duty with nothing to do at the moment, she suggested they make up a
scary story in honor of Halloween.
Greg shone the light
on his face and in a low, slow voice continued the story, his hand waving
upward, "Thunder and lightning could be seen across the black
skies. He then sees something in the middle of the road."
He gazed at Catherine, Sara and Nick as he squinted
his eyes and continued his tale. "The truck driver wipes the windshield
with his hand. His eyes try to focus...Unsure if what he was
seeing was real." He passed the flashlight to Nick.
Nick flashed a
smile as he shone the light on his face and in his Texan drawl said,
"For what he saw was a beautiful woman standing in the middle of the road,
naked as the day she was born. And he thought to himself, 'hot damn! If that's NOT a costume, I don't know
what is!"
A groan could be heard
from Catherine. Greg smacked his forehead, rolled up his eyes and
murmured, "Oh, brother..."
Sara punched him
on the arm and grabbed the flashlight from him. "Oh, come on now,
Nick! You're killing the story. And it’s supposed to be scary, not horny!"
"Alright,
alright! I'll be
serious!" Nick laughed as he took the flashlight back. He cleared his
throat, took a deep breath and his smile faded. "The driver got out of his
truck, unsure if he was hallucinating. He rubs his eyes and blinks
twice. 'She's still there,' he says to himself." The side of his
mouth twitched, and slowly his boyish grin came to life. "The driver
cautiously approaches the woman and asks, 'Miss, it's raining cats and dogs out
here. Aren't you getting... soaked?
You like getting... wet?" Nick winked at Sara as she grabbed the
flashlight grumbling.
Catherine reached
for the sugar packets by the nearby table and threw a handful at
him, "Nick, you are such a pig!" He shielded himself laughing.
"Quiet now! My
turn...!" Sara said as she sat up straight and shone the light
upwards, casting shadows on her face. Catherine did a double take glancing up
again at the brunette. She thought the younger CSI was looking sexier than
usual tonight.
Sara cleared her
throat, looked at her companions and said almost in a whisper, "The
woman turns around and faces the driver. Cold rain was still pouring down and
it seemed it didn't bother her one bit. And when
lightning flashed across the sky, he saw her eyes were that of a blank
stare looking back at him." She paused and breathed in deeply. "His
hair stood on ends like he was looking at death himself. He then notices her
lips were moving but he could not hear what she
was saying. Out of curiosity and against his better judgment, knowing that
every fiber in his body was screaming for him to get back in the truck and
to get the hell out of there...he couldn’t move. He felt his feet were
planted. He couldn't keep his eyes off the woman. He couldn't understand
what she was saying." Her voice was now a slow whisper.
"So he leans
in closer..." Sara again paused and pulled the flashlight closer to her.
Unconsciously Greg
leaned forward. Nick tilted his head towards the brunette. Catherine shifted
her weight, waiting for Sara to continue. Sara looked at each of her audience
slowly. "First, he heard a low hissing sound coming from her mouth...and...then..." Sara paused again.
"BOO!" Sara
shouted at the top of her lungs. Greg screamed aloud in a high pitched
voice. Catherine covered her face with her hands. Nick fell backwards
shielding himself, and Sara who couldn't contain herself started laughing
uncontrollably.
Greg stood up shakily.
"That was mean of you, Sara." He ran his fingers nervously through
his hair. Catherine looked up at him and started laughing along with the
brunette, "Greg screams like a little girl!" Nick rolled on the floor
laughing so hard he had to wipes his eyes.
"I do not scream
like a girl! I was...pretending!" Greg turned on the light in the
break room and looked back at the three who were still sitting on the floor
laughing at him. "Oh, you three can just lay back and enjoy yourselves. I'm going back to the lab."
Nick called out,
"If you're lucky, there might be a naked woman in there waiting!"
Greg lifted his chin
up and looked at them, "Ha! Ha! Very funny. Mean,
mean people…Shame on you all. Picking on the innocent!"
He grumbled to himself walking away.
Nick stood up and
stretched. "Ladies, it's been a pleasure. I need to go back and finish off
my report before Grissom comes back. Happy Halloween,
y'all."
Catherine stood up, put her hands on her waist. "That was very good and
mean at the same time, Sara." She smiled warmly at the brunette. " I gotta hand it you, you
had me there for a moment."
"I told you I
could make Greg scream. So pay up, Willows." She
put her palm out towards the strawberry blond.
Catherine grinned as
she took her hand and pulled the brunette up close to her. "And exactly
how did you want me to pay you again?"
"Hmmm..."
Being this close to Catherine always made her mind go blank. "I...Uh...You
know…"
Catherine leaned
closer and whispered in her ear, "I'll meet you in my office, Sidle."
She let go of Sara's hand and slowly headed to the door. Sara raised an
eyebrow and watched her walk away. Catherine paused by the door and looked back
at her. "Are you coming or are you just going to stand there, staring at my ass again?"
"You bet your candy apple booty I'm coming!"
Sara chuckled catching up next to the strawberry blond.
"You did trick
us, Sara." Catherine said with a mischievous grin as they enter her
office. "Now it's my turn to give you a personal treat, the
Catherine Willows style." She locked the door behind her. "On my desk. Now."
Sara's
grin was ear to ear, thinking of ALL the possible treats she would be
getting in a moment. "Does that mean I get to be on top this time?"
She asked, watching Catherine slowly approach her.
The older CSI slid her
hand under Sara's top. "I'll think about it..."she responded with a
smirk.
