Buffy liked it better when Faith had been in jail. That way, she didn’t have to face the feelings that having her be around brought up. Instead, she had to try and keep up the past ‘hatred’ for her fellow Slayer, which was why she punched Faith in the cemetery while she was patrolling with Spike. When she got home later, Buffy found Faith in her room after taking a shower.

“I always did like how you smelled after showering, B.” Faith’s flirting still had its effect on her.

Buffy smiled as she closed the door. She was glad that she’d brought her pajamas into the bathroom. That way, Faith couldn’t cause her towel to have a malfunction. Deciding to turn the tables on her, Buffy walked up to Faith and kissed her.

“I preferred how you smelled after a ‘good’ patrol, Faith.” Buffy smirked as Faith just looked at her with her mouth open. “So, are you bunking with me? I’m sure I have a wife beater and boxers you can borrow.”

Buffy thought something might happen that night, but prison must have changed Faith because she didn’t try anything. The next morning, Faith wasn’t distant…but she wasn’t the Faith that Buffy knew, either.

She didn’t have a chance to find out what was up with the new Faith.  Their attack on the vineyard turned into a disaster, and Buffy listened to the gang order her out of the house. She could see in Faith’s eyes that she wasn’t on board with the decision. That why Buffy gave Faith the advice of not being afraid to lead them. Someone had to take charge, and the Scoobies weren’t up to par.

Leave it to Spike. Buffy shouldn’t have been surprised that his pep talk (along with his news) led her to getting past Caleb and finding the Scythe.

Of course when the First Buffy told her that ‘Faith go boom’, Buffy tapped into her Slayer link so she knew where to go. Having the Scythe made cutting through the Turok-Hans easier. Faith didn’t go boom – but she was out for the count. Once Buffy brought the girls home, she gave Giles and Willow the weapon to research while she locked herself in her bedroom with Faith. She wanted to watch over her, and as she did, Buffy decided to tell Faith how she felt once the brunette woke up. It took a couple hours, but Faith’s eyes finally opened.

“B?” Buffy reached up and put her finger over Faith’s lips to stop her from saying anything else that might distract Buffy from doing what she wanted to do.

“Faith, I know there is a lot of history between us, but this last year has showed me that what happened before doesn’t matter. What I’m trying to say is… I love you, Faith. I think I always have.” Now Buffy had to wait to see how Faith was going to respond.

Being surprised wasn’t something Buffy was used to, so when Faith reached over and pulled her onto the bed and then started to kiss her, it took Buffy a few seconds before dueling Faith for dominance of the kiss. Faith’s hands had just yanked her shirt out of her pants and started to push it up Buffy’s body when there was a knock at the door.

“Buffy?” Damn Willow and her timing. “We have some news on the Scythe.”

The lead took Buffy away from the bedroom and to the Guardian - and to her chopping Caleb in half. To top it all off, and then Angel showed up. He handed Buffy the necklace, and she was tempted to accept his help. But his responsibility was Los Angeles now. Spike would have to do. He acted like an ass when he smelled Angel on her, but when Buffy called him a Champion, he accepted it with pride.

That night in bed with Faith should have been one of the best of Buffy’s life, but she was restless. Walking over to the window, Buffy stared out into the darkness until the First showed up as Caleb and tried to unsettle her.

That was it. Buffy knew what she had to do. The next morning, she told the Scoobies the plan for defeating the First. Everything was serious as they made their plans. At least, it was right up to the point where Willow mentioned the benefits of Kennedy having a pierced tongue.

Buffy couldn’t help giving Faith a wink. Something to plan for after the battle, maybe…

Staring out at the hole that used to be Sunnydale, Buffy knew then that this was a clean slate for everybody. That was until Faith told her she wanted to head back to prison to finish her sentence. Thankfully, Buffy was able to convince her to let Gunn take a look at the case and see if there was something he could do to shorten the sentence. Once that was taken care of, Buffy wanted to make sure Faith knew what was waiting for her - even though Buffy already had a plan in motion to make sure Faith stayed safe.

Buffy walked into the hotel room she and Faith were sharing wearing with a huge smile. “Get dressed, Faith; we have an appointment.”

“Come on, B. I was hoping we could spend the day in bed.” Faith broke out the dimples, and Buffy almost changed her mind.

“Faith, as much as I want to make love to you, I’m not rushing into it just because you are going to be gone for six months. Besides, if I don’t get the tattoo today, I’ll end up talking myself out of it.” Buffy giggled as Faith flew out of bed and quickly got dressed.

“Wicked. What are we getting inked?” Buffy shouldn’t have been surprised that Faith’s mind went to the gutter.

“It’s not where, Faith. It is what.” The new, confused Faith was something Buffy was really starting to enjoy. “We’re finally getting our ‘Chosen Two’ tattoos. Where you put it is up to you. I’m putting mine on my shoulder blade.” Buffy didn’t tell Faith that she was getting her tongue pierced a couple days later.

Faith ended up getting hers above her tribal band, and instead of going back to the hotel, she and Faith ended up walking around and just talking.

The morning after Shower Time...

Buffy knew from watching a couple of other inmates leave that she probably had forty-five minutes before Faith would be out. She had Willow and Dawn drive up with Faith’s surprise. She just hoped that her fellow Slayer would like the Akita that Buffy picked up at the shelter a few days ago. Wiping her hands on pants for the countless time, Buffy looked up as Faith walked out of the prison gates.

Stepping out of the minivan and holding the dog on its leash, Buffy could see Faith’s eyes were glassy. That didn’t stop her dimples from coming out. “I hope you have some babysitters in mind for the dog, B. Because I told you we were breaking in our bed, right?”

“After we eat breakfast, Dawn can look after Lavelle (Only Xander didn’t like the name) while we test out the box springs.” Buffy pushed the dog back into the vehicle as she ran up to Faith and kissed her hungrily.
