I had just laid down after fixing myself a little breakfast when I
heard the doorbell. I was hoping to catch a couple hours sleep before
starting my day, but I'll answer the door instead. "Lindsay, what are
you doing here?" I asked opening the door. "Something is wrong with
mom," she said looking freaked. "Is she sick?" I asked showing her in.
"No, she didn't come home right after work, and I think she has been
crying," Lindsay said. "How did you get here?" I asking sitting us down
on the couch. Before she could answer the doorbell rang again.

It was the cab driver that brought Lindsay. I paid him and went back
to Lindsay. "Do you know where she was?" I asked. "I don't know, but
when I said good morning. That is when I noticed she had been crying,"
Lindsay explained. I went to my phone and dialed Catherine's number, but
got a busy signal. I tried her cell, but it kicked me over to voice
mail. "Okay sweetie, It's going to be alright. I'm going to get dressed,
and then I'll take you home and see what's up with your mom," I said
giving her a hug.

Luckily, I remember where Catherine lives from when she took care of
me when I was sick. I pulled into her driveway and helped Lindsay out of
the car. I made sure Lindsay was comfortable before I went see about
Catherine. I walked down the hall nervously wondering what the hell I
was going to do. "Catherine," I said knocking on the door. "Go away,"
Catherine yelled through the door. "No, you're scaring Lindsay. She came
to my house to see if I can help. Now open the damn door!" I said
getting pissed. "Leave me the hell alone, Sara," she said as I sensed
her getting closer to the door.

"Catherine, you have two choices. One, you open the door, and we talk
about what is wrong. Or two, I break the door down, and we talk about
what's wrong," I said sternly. "Go fuck yourself Sara," she said
angrily. "Okay then, option two it is," I said as I heard Catherine
unlock the door. I didn't know what to expect when I walked through the
door. "What the hell is you problem? You scared the shit out of
Lindsay," I asked. "It's none of your business," she said sitting down
on the bed. "Bullshit, your daughter took a cab to my house because you
took the phone off the hook and thought I could help. So don't give me
the 'none of your business' crap," I said kneeling in front of her.

"That bastard Chris was cheating on me with one of his girls," she
said starting to cry again. "What an asshole, I can't believe someone
would do that to you," I said wanting to go kick his ass. I tucked her
in and laid with her until she had fallen asleep. I didn't realize that
I had been laying with her that long until I saw that it was after noon.
I thought I should go check and see if Lindsay was hungry. "Hey sweetie,
are you hungry?" I asked. "Yeah I am, how's mom?" she asked still
looking a little scared. "I got to sleep, but I don't want leave her
alone too long," I said giving Lindsay a hug.

I whipped her up some banana pancakes and eggs. She thanked me and
told me to go take care of mom. I walked back into the room and
thankfully she was still asleep. I laid back down with her and was
caressing her head. I must have fallen asleep because I awoke to the
smell of food. I walked down the hall, and Lindsay saw me and ran
towards me. "Sara!" she yelled as she jumped into my arms. "Hey there
kiddo, what's going on?" I asked smiling. Mom is making us dinner," she
said. "How is she feeling?" I questioned. "She seems better. She
apologized for scaring me," Lindsay said hugging me around the neck as
we entered the kitchen. "Thank you Sara," Catherine said smiling.
