CHAPTER 1

Sara's POV
----------

This is so unlike me. It's my first month here, and I'm running late. I know
I shouldn't ride my bike to work, but I can get there faster by cutting through
traffic. I grab my helmet before locking up.

I'm actually making good time. It looks like I should make with a little time
to spare. I feel the back tire give out as my bike starts towards the ground. My
last thought is 'this is going to hurt'.

------------------
Lab(Cath's POV)
------------------

I don't know what to make of the new one, Sara Sidle. She seems nice enough,
but there are times that some cases we get kind of personal for her. I don't
know whether it is the mom in me or what, but I feel the need to look out for
her espcially after what happened to Holly.

As I pulled into the lab parking lot, I notice that Sara's car isn't here yet
which is surprising considering she is normally the first one here. Maybe she
finally realized that she doesn't have to impress Grissom, mainly because he
doesn't notice things like that.

I head to the breakroom for my first cup of coffee. I sit down at the table
to await my collegues and whatever case Grissom feels to send my way. Nick is
the first one in and gives the guy head nod as I notice a little gitty-up in his
step. It is good to see somebody is getting some.

Warrick comes in with Gil taking about some article that he had been reading.
He squeezes my shoulder as he passes by before grabbing a water. Gil starts
handing out assignments, and gets to mine. He wants me to pair up with Sara.
"Where's Sara?" he asks finally looking around and not seeing her.

I tell him I'll check the locker room and then give her a call in case she is
running late. I didn't find her so I pulled out my cell to see if she was on her
way.

"Hello," someone said that wasn't Sara answering, but the voice was familiar.

"Nancy, why are you answering Sara's phone?" I asked starting to worry.

She explained that she came upon an accident. Apparently Sara was riding her
motorcycle to work when she lost control and hit the pavement causing a couple
fender benders behind her. Nancy got the lookie-loos to back off so she could
assess how bad Sara was hurt.

Nancy told me she would call me when she had more news. I know the guys would
want to know, but until I know more I'll wait. I headed off to find Grissom to
tell him seeing that he is her supervisor. Thankfully by the time I got back to
the breakroom, everybody had cleared out.

I'm hoping he is in his office because I don't really want to tell him over
the phone. I knock on the door frame to get his attention seeing that he is
working on case reports. He must see the concern on face because he asks what is
wrong. I explained to him what Nancy had told me.

He tells me to work the case, and if I need help just let him know. I head to
the car wondering how he can be like that. I barely know Sara, but I'm worried
about her, and Grissom acts all ho-hum like it happens everyday. I mean he was
the one that brought her here, and he just wants updates when I get them.

"Hey Cath, where's your partner?" Brass asked as I walked up to him. I guess
he hasn't heard. I gave him the information as I had it. I told him that Nancy
was taking care of her so she was in good hands.

I'm glad Grissom gave me a burglary instead of something with a body because
I don't think I could focus that much. I collected up my evidence before packing
it up in the Tahoe and heading back to the lab. I checked my phone to see if I
missed any calls. I guess it is not that serious or Nancy would have called.

I headed for the print lab to see if any of my lifts kicked anything out. I
called Brass about a possible suspect, and he said he would let me know when he
picked him up. I decided to grab another cup of coffee before seeing if I can
find anything else to nail our possible suspect with.

I find Warrick and Nick already there. I guess now is a good a time to tell
them as any. I got their attention and informed them of what happened. I told
them the same thing I told Brass and Gil about giving them more when I had it.

--------

Thankfully when we told the suspect about the evidence, he confessed. I
headed back to the lab to punch out and head home. I figure I'll stop by the
hospital after dropping Lindsay off at school.

I opened the door to find my mom cooking Lindsay breakfast. She must have
heard the door open because she ran towards me to give me a hug. I carried her
to the kitchen, and Mom told me that Nancy had called her to tell her to have me
stop by the hospital to talk.

When I dropped Lindsay off she told me that she hoped my friend was okay. I
headed for the hospital wondering what Nancy wanted that she didn't want to tell
me over the phone.

I had them page her when I arrived, and she took me to the lounge. She told
she found something when she was looking at Sara x-rays. It looked like she had
been getting abused. I explained that Sara wasn't a big talker about herself so
I didn't know, but could explain why she came to Vegas.

I thought to myself as I headed for Sara's room that we had something in
common. Of course it's not the kind of thing you really want in common with
someone. I really don't know what Sara is going to look like after hearing of
her injuries. Nancy said she had a broken leg, separated shoulder, and a couple
broken ribs. Thankfully her helmet saved her from a concussion.

I opened her door and see someone is with her. I see Sara look at me with
fear in her eyes. I pull my gun from its' holster. "I suggest you leave before I
call the police," I said taking the safety off.

CHAPTER 2

I moved closer to Sara keeping my gun on the guy. He didn't seem to be to
afraid of my gun.

"I'm not going to ask you again," I said pulling out my phone.

"Lady, you don't scare me," he staring me, "See you later, baby," he said
winking at Sara before leaving.

I finally let out the breath I was holding before putting my gun away. I
squeezed Sara's hand contemplating how I was going to handle this.

"I know we haven't know each that long, but can you tell me who that was, and
why he seemed to scare you?" I asked sitting in the chair beside her. I watched
her eyes after I posed the question to see if I could read what her reaction
might be.

She explained that he was her ex-boyfriend Scott, and the reason she took
Grissom up on his offer was to get away from the abusive bastard. As she thanked
me for helping out, she started to yawn so being a mom, I told her to get some
sleep.

After making sure she was asleep, I called up Brass to see if he could assign
an officer to Sara's room, and after I explained what happened, he told me there
would be one in the hour.

I must have fallen asleep because Nancy nudged me awake handing me a cup of
coffee telling me I needed to pick Lindsay up. I noticed Sara was still sleeping
as I followed Nancy out. Before I left, I explained to Nancy why there was a
guard at Sara's door.

I showed up at Lindsay's school a little early, so I decided to call Gil and
give him the latest on Sara. Just I finished the call, the bell rang and the
throngs of children ran out of the building.

"Mommy!" Lindsay yelled as she came running towards me giving me a hug. I
picked her up and put her in the car before we headed home. I kept looking back
at her in the rear view mirror kind of worried about Sara. If it wasn't for
Lindsay, I'm not positive that I would have gotten over the abuse I went through
with Eddie.

After doing our normal after school routine, we curled up together on the
couch to watch a little TV before dinner. I kept noticing that she was looking
up at me every couple minutes which normally means she wants to ask me
something.

"Sweetie, whatever you want to ask just ask. You are making me nervous with
your constant staring," I said giving her a kiss on the head.

"I just wanted to know if your friend is okay," she said as I explained that
she was hurt, but was going to fine because Aunt Nancy is her doctor.

---------

I headed for the hospital after dropping Lindsay at my mom's house. If I
hurried, I could catch Nanc before she left. She told me that someone would need
to take Sara home in the morning seeing that she couldn't drive herself. Even
though visiting hours are over, I was going check in on Sara to see if she would
let me take her home in the morning.

I opened the door quietly not to disturb her in case she was sleeping,
instead I found her reading a book. She told me thar Gil had stopped by with
some reading materials. I sat down in the chair hoping she would accept my
offer.

"Sara, I know you're getting released in the morning, and I was wondering if
you would let me take you home?" I asked smiling.

"As long as I can see this daughter of yours that Nancy has been going on and
on about today," she said as I felt my face get a little warm. I told her that
we could drop Lindsay off at school before heading to her place.

Work was slow, so I ended catching up on my paperwork. Although halfway
through shift, Grissom came into my office and thanked me for taking care of
Sara this morning. He explained that he knew about Scott, but thought that
getting Sara to come here might fix the situation.

I came home and found Lindsay, Nancy, and Mom eating breakfast. I think Nancy
has been telling Linds about Sara because she was happy to meet my new friend
since she knew everybody else. I grabbed a cup of coffee before sitting down and
telling them about my night.

Arriving at the hospital, I made Lindsay hold my hand as we went through the
parking lot. I almost forgot that Lindsay is somewhat of a minor celebrity as we
made it to Sara's room. Before we went in, I told her that Sara is a little
bruised so don't make a big deal of it. I opened the door to find Sara pouting
in a wheelchair which I knew was standard procedure for leaving the hospital.

"So your my Aunt Sara?" Lindsay asked as I saw the look of shock come over
Sara's face.

"What?" Sara asked looking at me for help.

"Sorry, should have warned you that if you work with me Lindsay adopts you as
family," I said grabbing Sara's stuff. An orderlie took the wheelchair as I
helped her into the car. The ride to school was spent with Lindsay asking Sara
questions about herself.

When we got to her place, I helped her up her walkway, but stopped when I saw
that her front door was open.

CHAPTER 3

I pulled out my gun and was about to enter when Sara grabbed my arm saying
she wasn't comfortable with me going in alone. I walked us back to the car
before calling Brass up. I told him to bring Gil and Warrick seeing that I don't
want Sara's problems to become office gossip.

I explained to Brass and Grissom what we found when we showed up. I told them
if there was anything else to call me. When I got back to the car, I found that
Sara had fallen asleep. I guess I'll wait to explain why we ended up at my
place.

The drive home was quiet which means I spent it overthinking. I'm thinking
Sara might be my second chance. I didn't get a chance to mentor Holly after I
convinced her to stay, but maybe I can with Sara.

When I pulled in my driveway, I got out and lightly nudged Sara awake. She
has that sleepy look Lindsay gets when she gets woken up too early. I helped her
in the house, and for once I'm glad that my spare bedroom is on the first floor
because I don't even think about how I would Sara up the stairs.

I did the mom thing by making her comfortable before tucking her in. I locked
up before heading upstairs to get some sleep myself. I made sure to set my alarm
before finally laying down.

I turned off the alarm when it went off and headed downstairs to see how Sara
was doing. What I found was my mom showing her family photo albums.

"Morning Catherine sort of, I met your new friend Sara and hearing that
Lindsay adopted her as her new aunt. I figured that she should see the family
photo albums," Mom said smiling when I noticed that Sara was smirking.

Mom followed me into the kitchen when I went to get a cup of coffee. I
explained to her what happened this morning at Sara's place and at the hospital
the previous one. I gave her a hug before heading out to pick up Lindsay and
figure out how to tell her about our new house guest.

Lindsay did her routine running towards me and jumping in my arms when she
came out the school doors. I buckled her into her seat and kissed her cheek
before I got in and drove us to the ice cream parlor.

"What do you need to tell me Mom?" Lindsay asked as we sat on the bench to
eat our ice cream.

"When we get home, there will be someone there besides Nana and Aunt Nancy.
Something happened this morning when I dropped off Sara, and she is going to
stay with us for a couple days," I said explaining not to ask any really
personal questions.

"Sara staying with us means I can get to know her like I know everybody else
you work with. Plus, I can invite her to my birthday party," Lindsay said
smiling.

I couldn't help but smile on the way home thinking Eddie might have been an
abusive bastard. He gave me the most special thing I have in this world.

I carried Lindsay in the house when we got home. I apologized to Sara and Mom
for being a little late telling them that Lindsay wanted some ice cream. Mom
gave me a nod knowing what that meant. I told Mom to make sure Lindsay started
her homework while I took a shower.

I came downstairs to find that Mom was by herself on the couch. She motioned
me to join her, and she showed me Sara helping Lindsay with her homework. Maybe
I can learn something from my daughter on how to deal with new people that come
into my life.

I leaned my head on Mom's shoulder as we looked through the albums she was
showing Sara earlier, so I didn't interupt Sara and Lindsay in case Sara gets
easily embarassed. I jumped when my phone rang surprising me.

I saw that it was Grissom, so I took it down the hall. He informed that Scott
had trashed Sara's place. He said he left a note saying when he found her that
she would be sorry that she left. He told me that Brass was sending over a car
as a precaution. He said that he was giving me the night off in case Scott knew
who I was and was following me.

I was walking back down the hall trying to figure out how I was going to
explain this. I really don't know how Sara is going to react seeing that she is
already afraid of him. I came into the living room just as Sara was making her
way back in.

"What?" Sara asked noticing my worry.

CHAPTER 4

I had Mom take Lindsay to the kitchen so I could talk to Sara. I helped her
sit on the couch as I sat in front of her on the coffee table. I held onto her
good hand as I explained to her what Grissom had just told me.

"Catherine, I don't want to put your family in danger with my being here. I
should just go," Sara said trying to get up.

"Sara, you are not going anywhere. For one thing, you aren't in any shape to,
and as for being in danger, Brass sent over a car to watch the house," I said
giving her a hug before heading to the kitchen to explain the new development.

Lindsay went in the living room with Sara while Mom and I started dinner. I'm
a little surprised at how Mom is handling this. I figured she would head for the
hills after I went through with Eddie.

I set the table as Mom was bringing the food in. I went to tell the other two
that dinner is ready and found them watching TV with Lindsay leaning against
Sara's side, and Sara had her arm around Lindsay. I helped Sara to the table as
Lindsay turned off the TV before joining us.

Lindsay was telling us about her day at school while we were eating. I kept
noticing Sara smiling at some stories. I hope between the three of us that we
can help Sara through this.

I called Nancy after dinner to see if she could bring some clothes over for
Sara seeing that she can't get into her place. She told me that she be by after
her shift. I walked into the living room to find that Lindsay had gotten to
watch a movie with her.

Halfway through, Mom said she was getting tired so I told her to take my bed,
and I would bunk with Lindsay tonight. She kissed my cheek before heading
upstairs. When the movie was over, I noticed Lindsay had fallen asleep on Sara's
lap.

I picked up Lindsay and told Sara I would help her to her room after putting
Lindsay to bed. While I was up there, I changed into my pajamas. I also grabbed
one of my night shirts and shorts for Sara to wear.

I came downstairs and noticed that Sara was starting to nod off. I made sure
everything was locked up and turned off before taking her down the hall. I took
her sling off so I could change her shirt, and I slowly pulled the scrub pants
off that Nancy gave her to wear home. After getting her redressed, I was about
to leave when Sara grabbed my hand.

"Catherine, can you stay in here tonight. I don't really feel like being
alone. I promise no grabby hands," Sara said slightly smirking. I smiled as I
climbed in bed. She laid her on my shoulder as we went to sleep.

I woke up the next morning feeling like I was being watched. I turned over
and found Sara and Lindsay were both looking at me and smiling.

"What's so funny?" I asked giving Lindsay a good morning kiss.

"Sara and I were comparing notes on how comfortable pillow you are," Lindsay
said giving me a hug before climbing off the bed and heading for the kitchen.

Before I got a chance to help Sara so we could get breakfast, Nancy popped in
with a stack of clothes. She told me that she would help Sara get dressed after
she checked out her shoulder and ribs. I gave Nancy a hug thanking her for
helping.

As I was fixing my plate, Mom walked up to me and told me to be careful with
Sara. I stood there in awe that she would think I would take advantage of Sara's
situation. I hadn't really thought about Sara sexually until she brought it up.
I know she is comfortable with relationships with men and women, but I think she
is just making sure I don't rush into anything.

When I sat down, I saw that Lindsay had her digital camera beside her. I
picked it up to see what pictures she has taken lately. I saw the last couple
were pictures of Sara and I sleeping. She told me that she thought we looked
cute so she took them.

I heard Nancy and Sara before I saw them. They were laughing as they came in.
I knew right away what they were laughing about. It was Sara's shirt. It was a
black tee with white letters that said, 'Wanna Play Doctor?'.

CHAPTER 5

I feel my face getting really warm, and I'm sure everyone knows why. Lindsay
was telling us school stories during breakfast while I tried not to make eye
contact with Sara knowing I would start to blush again. Mom and Nancy were
smirking the whole time we were eating knowing how much that shirt is bothering
me.

"Mom, can we take Sara to the park today?" Lindsay asked trying to avoid the
awkward silences that would occur when she stopped talking.

"If she wants to go, I don't see why not," I said looking at Sara.

"Sounds like a plan, I could use the fresh air. That is if it's okay with my
doctor," Sara said winking at Nancy.

Nancy agreed, and her and I decided to do the dishes while Mom and Linds took
care of Sara. As soon as we were alone, I smacked Nancy in the arm for putting
that shirt on Sara, and she informed that when Sara saw it, she wanted to wear
it.

Well, from where I stand it looks like Sara may have the same feelings I
have, but I not planning on doing anything until that jackass is out of the
picture. I just wish Sara would realize that she has the power over this guy.
She just needs to find the strength to put this guy in his place.

Before Nancy left, I asked her if there was anything I needed to know about
Sara's healing injuries. She said her ribs are going to be sore for awhile, but
the sling should be able to come tomorrow. I also inquired to a question I know
Sara is going to ask which is when she can go back to work.

She told she could go back in a week, but wouldn't be able to do field duty
until her cast came off. I know Sara wouldn't be happy with just lab work, but
hopefully would accept that at least she was working. I saw Sara motion Nancy
over before walking out the door. The only word I caught was Nancy saying yes to
something.

I sat in my car relaxing while Lindsay and Sara watched Saturday morning
cartoons. I was reading the paper, but occasionally I would watch the
interaction with my daughter and Sara. I smile thinking that Linds has a new
favorite work aunt.

Lindsay ran upstairs after PowerPuff girls were over to change for her park
trip. I asked Sara wanted to change before we left. She did, but would need help
getting her shirt off. I helped her up as we went to her room to see what other
shirts Nancy brought. I found a nice button up shirt as Sara explained the
easiest way to take her shirt off.

We got her good arm out, and I gently pulled it off. Sara must have been too
close to the edge of the bed because she tumbled back, and since I was off
balanced I ended with my face in her cleavage. I quickly got up and apologized
before helping her put the new shirt on. As I finished hooking her sling back
up, Lindsay knocked on the door to see if we were ready.

Lindsay wanted Sara to sit in the back seat on the way so she could talk to
her. I didn't mind seeing that I could talk to Sara while we watched Lindsay
play. When we got there, I told Lindsay to make she could see us at all times
before I let her go. I decided to start our conversation off with when she could
come back to work.

Of course, she kind of surprised me with the way she took it. She was glad to
be able to back even if it was just lab work. I smiled thinking the lab might
run smoother with Sara there seeing that besides ballistics, she knew how to do
everything else. I was getting thirsty and asked Sara if she wanted me to get
her anything.

As I was coming back with our coffees, I noticed Sara was standing having a
heated conversation with someone, and when I saw his face, I picked up my pace.
By the time I reached Sara she was already in mid rant.

"...bother me and mine, I will put you in the fucking ground. I suggest you
go back to wherever you came from because if I see you in Vegas again, I will
have you arrested," Sara sternly stated as I put my hand on her back telling her
I was behind her.

I stroked her back to calm her down so she wouldn't do anything to hurt her
already injured body. I handed her her coffee after helping her sit back down.
She took my hand after putting her coffee beside her and thanked me for giving
her the strength to be able to stand up to Scott.

I asked Sara and Lindsay to keep an eye on one another while I laid down for
a nap. I kicked my shoes off before stretching out. I couldn't help but smile as
I fell asleep knowing that I could start wooing Sara, and then maybe after a few
weeks we could play doctor on each other.

"Mommy, time to get up. Dinner is ready," Lindsay said as she was gently
nudging my shoulder to wake me up.

"What? who made dinner and is the kitchen still in one piece," I said popping
out of bed.

"Mom calm down, Sara and I ordered chinese. It is waiting downstairs," she
said as I ran my fingers through my hair in case I had a bad case of bed hair.

I carried Lindsay downstairs wondering if the house is a mess considering
that Sara can't really pick up after Lindsay when she just leaves stuff
everywhere. Instead, I find the living room spotless, and I walked into the
dining room to find the table set with about a dozen boxes on the table. I
squeezed Sara's good shoulder and gave Lindsay a kiss before I sat her in her
chair. Lindsay explained what all they ordered as filled up our plates.

CHAPTER 6

I didn't really want to go to work tonight, but Mom came over before I left
to keep an eye on Sara and Lindsay. I'm not sure how to explain to Gil and Brass
that Sara is not going to pressing charges against Scott, but I stand behind her
no matter what she decides.

I feel like I'm sixteen again whenever I'm around Sara. I don't why she is
different than any of the other women I've dated. I mean is it the fact I work
with her or that she is living with me or is it something deeper.

As I pulled into the lab parking lot, I realize I should probably rein in my
happiness or the guys will be playing a game of twenty questions to find out
what my deal is. I stopped in my office to drop off my stuff before heading to
the breakroom.

I notice I'm the first one in, but then I notice the flowers in the middle of
the table. I smelled their fragrance as I found the card to see who they were
for. They were for me. I opened the card, and it read: Thanks for everything. S.
I wiped a tear that started to fall before putting the card in my pocket.

"Hey Catherine, who sent you flowers?" Nick asked surprising me.

"A woman never tells," I answered hoping he will leave it alone.

"Reeled in another one did you, Catherine," Warrick said as I grabbed the
flowers to take them to my office.

I am going to kick her ass. She may not have been here long, but she knows
what happens when people get gifts brought to them at work. Hopefully by the
time I get back, Gil has sent the guys on their assignment.

I open my door to head back and almost run into Grissom. I explain that I had
forgotten something, and he just handed me the slip. It was a DB in the desert.
I guess he either didn't hear about the flowers or just doesn't care. As I was
leaving, I told him that I needed to talk to him and Brass before the end of
shift.

I debated calling Sara as I drove to the scene, but decided against so I
didn't risk waking up Lindsay. I see I drew Detective O'Reilly tonight which is
probably good because working with Brass might have become uncomfortable. I got
the information about the vic before I did my walkthrough.

After getting the TOD from David and collecting all the evidence, I started
packing it up in the Denali. I was about halfway through when the skies opened
up with a downpour. By the time I put all my evidence in the truck, my clothes
were soaked clear through.

Of course, the night I don't have backup clothes in my locker is the night I
get soaked. I called up Nancy to see if she could get me scrubs to wear for the
rest of the night. I explained to her what happened, and she told me that she
would be waiting.

She was waiting at the entrance when I showed up, but took to the locker room
so I could get dried off. After fixing my smeared makeup and drying my hair, I
put my wet clothes in a bag that Nancy gave me. I gave her a hug before I left
thanking her for helping me out.

I realize on my way back to the lab that all I have on is a set of scrubs and
my wet shoes seeing that my bra and panties both got soaked. If Greg could see
me know, I think his head would explode knowing that I'm going commando.

I dropped by the locker room to drop off my wet clothes and see if I had any
extra clothes still here. I only found my backup shoes and a pair of socks, I
guess it is better than nothing. I headed back to lab that had put the evidence
in so I could get started.

Well at least the night wasn't a total disaster. My case ended up being a
slam dunk. I headed to Grissom's office to drop off my report, and hopefully
kill two birds with one stone. I walked into his office while he and Brass were
talking about their case.

I explained to them what Sara's wishes were, but I told them to keep it open
for a couple days, just in case. After I told them how Sara handled herself,
they understood her reasons. I grabbed my wet clothes and flowers before heading
home.

I stopped off for donuts on the way home to make breakfast easier. I decided
to put my clothes in the washer before checking on my girls. When I went to
Sara's room, I found her sleeping with Lindsay who was draped over her. I
quietly closed the door before going back to the kitchen.

I sat the flowers in the middle of the table as I wrote note to have them
save me at least one jelly. I turned off the the ligths as I headed upstairs. I
changed into my pajamas climbing into bed.

CHAPTER 7

I wake up feeling a little better than I did this morning. I look at my alarm
clock and see it is a little after three. As I finished getting dressed, there
is a little knock on my door.

"Mommy, are you up?" Lindsay asked through the door. I open the door and see
my smiling daughter looking up at me. I pick her up and head downstairs to get
myself something to eat.

I come downstairs and find Mom and Sara both reading the paper. I walk over
to Sara and give her a kiss on the cheek. Mom gives me a look before I head to
the kitchen to see if my note did any good.

I look at the donut box, and Lindsay had written on it that Sara ate all the
jellies. When I open the box, I see that Lindsay is trying to get Sara in
trouble. Well if that is how Lindsay wants to play, let us play.

"Sara, can I see you in the kitchen please?" I said serious enough to get
Lindsay started. Sara came in, and I showed her the box. I pointed at her in
case Lindsay was spying on us. I had Sara leave looking dejected.

"Mom, what's wrong with Sara?" Lindsay asked coming in looking worried. I
showed her the box, and she was about to own up to joking when Mom and Sara came
in laughing. Lindsay ended up laughing with us seeing that she deserved the joke
we played on her.

Mom took Lindsay into the living room to give Sara and I some privacy. I
poured us both a cup of coffee before sitting down. I was telling her about my
night while eating. Her interest was definitely peaked when I told her about me
going commando.

"Did you get any questions about the flowers?" she asked smiling. I told her
that I told them they were from a new friend with possibilities as I took her
hand in mine. I helped her up as I finished my last donut. Sara gave me a chaste
kiss on the lips before we headed for the living room.

Sara and I sat on the couch watching Lindsay play Ratchet and Clank. I
wrapped my arm around as she leaned against me. I put a pillow on the coffee
table so she could put her leg up. I kept noticing Mom giving us looks while she
read the paper.

I woke up warm and smelling something fantastic. I look down, and Sara is
sleeping with her head on my lap. I look over at Lindsay who has this stupid
looking smile on her face.

"What?" I asked giving her 'the mom' stare. She just smiles and heads into
the kitchen. I look back down at Sara and brush the hair away from her face. She
smiles opening her eyes looking up at me. I help her sit up and scoot over so I
can give her a kiss.

"Dinner's ready," Mom announces before I get chance to kiss Sara. I help her
up thinking Mom and I are probably going to have a talk before work. I don't see
what problem she could have. She knows I've dated women before, plus I know she
likes Sara.

Thankfully, Lindsay wanted to her about my night while we ate. I explained it
a little differently than what I told Sara. Apparently, Nancy had called earlier
to make sure I was feeling alright and proceded to tell Lindsay I looked like a
drowned rat when I arrived at the hospital.
After dinner, Mom had volunteered her and I to wash dishes. Lindsay helped
Sara to the couch as I watched to make sure she made it okay. I head over to
sink to await the Spanish Inqusition.

"Mom before you start, yes I know what I'm doing. Sara and I have been
getting to know each other better after the rough start we had we she first
started. I know you are just looking out for me, but I don't think Sara would
purposely hurt me," I said giving her a hug.

"Take all my fun why don't you, but you're right, I was just looking out for
my baby girl," she said smiling.

CHAPTER 8

The last couple days have been hilarious. Lindsay has been trying to get Sara
to tell her what she got for her birthday. I haven't done anything about it
seeing that I've had to put up with it the last couple birthdays.

Sara and I have been spending more time together, finally getting to know
each other. She is thrilled that she is able to go back to work tomorrow. I
haven't told the guys she is coming back because I want it to be a surprise.

It has been slow lately so Gil letting me be on call so I spend Lindsay's
birthday at home. The guys told me they would do everything in their power to
make sure I wouldn't have to come into work.

I have a feeling that I will be owing Sara some favors seeing that she is
keeping Lindsay busy while I set up for her party. I just love watching those
two together. Lindsay brings something out of Sara that I don't think Sara has
felt in awhile.

I'm putting the final touches on the decorations when I notice the guests
should be coming shortly. I head down the hall to release Sara from her eight
year old ball of energy. I open the door to find Sara on top of Lindsay tickling
her.

"What did she do?" I asked trying not to laugh. I saw Sara point to her cast
where Lindsay had written 'Sara loves Mom'. I'm thinking to myself that this is
worse than the shirt Sara worn that first morning here. If the guys want to sign
Sara's leg, they are liable to see it.

I'm about to lecture Lindsay when the doorbell rings. Lindsay runs out to
answer the door while I hand Sara her crutches. Sara is happy that she is now
able to use two crutches so she doesn't need to much help moving around. I give
her a kiss before we head down the hall to be with our guests.

Mom and Nancy were the first to arrive followed by Greg and Nick. Lindsay put
her gifts with the rest of her presents. Lindsay and Sara were talking with Nick
and Greg while I filled Mom and Nancy on what Lindsay had wrote on Sara's cast.

Nancy burst into laughter, and Mom tried to not to laugh. The doorbell rang
again, and Lindsay let in Grissom and Warrick. I left my snickering family to go
over to talk to Warrick. I lightly grazed Sara's butt as I passed her. When I
made to Warrick and Grissom, Sara was giving me a you'll pay for that look.

Once all the guests arrived, Nancy and I took all the gifts to the coffee
table as Lindsay sat on the couch between Sara and Mom. I stood in front of
Lindsay so I could pictures of her reaction as she opened her presents.

Grissom and Nick had both gotten her chemistry sets. Warrick gave her a card
with fifty dollars. Greg got her the new Ratchet and Clank game. Mom and Nancy
both got her clothes as did I. She saved Sara's present for last, I think it is
because Sara has been so secretive about it.

It's shaped like a clothes box, but if I know Sara, she wouldn't buy her
clothes. She would want her first present to Lindsay to be special. Lindsay rips
off the paper and takes the lid off. Inside is a bracelet or necklace box on top
of something covered with tissue paper.

She opens the felt box, and it is one of those name necklaces. Lindsay has
Sara put it on before she sees what her other present is. Lindsay peels back the
paper and sees a leather bound journal. She holds it up so I can get a picture
before she climbs on Sara's lap to give her a hug. She whispers something in her
ear that makes Sara blink back tears.

I guess I will have to ask what she said later. Lindsay proceded to give
everybody thank yous for her presents while I cut her cut. Warrick came up
behind me and whispered in my ear that he saw the writing on Sara's leg. I had
Nancy take over as I drag him down the hall.

"Okay, it is not that big a deal that you know, but did anybody see it that
you know of?" I asked hoping to spare Sara from unwanted attention.

"Not that I know of, but I can find out at work tonight. Don't worry, you
secret is safe with me," he said giving me a hug.

I make a beeline for Sara as I come back in the room to let her know. I
whispered the news in her ear to keep anybody else from hearing it. She just
smiles and pats my hand. She whispers in my ear that she is happy to have a
family again.

CHAPTER 9

Good lord, I thought Lindsay was bad before her birthday, but Sara is giving
her a run for her money. I mean she has been going non stop since we got up. I
have half a mind to take her crutches and hide them so she has to sit still.

I called Nancy to come pick up Sara so she and Sara could pick up Lindsay
from school and spend some time together. I know Lindsay won't mind seeing that
she hasn't spent that much time with her aunt lately plus she gets to spend time
with her new best friend.

I'm hoping work is a slow tonight so I can spend time with Sara at work so
she doesn't try to overdo it her first night back. I head to the laundry room
after hearing the dryer shut off. I fold the clothes and take them to their
respective rooms.

After finishing the laundry, I headed upstairs to stretch out in bed. I'm not
really tired, but I could probably use a nap. I turn the radio on for backround
noise. I pick up my book off the end table to read a little until my girls get
back.

I must have fallen asleep because I'm woken up by Sara's hand creeping up my
shirt. I feel her touch the underside of my bra as I let out a moan.

"Whatcha doing Sara?" I asked wondering how cheeky of an answer I'm going to
get.

"Playing doctor, you seem to have these two protrusions on top of your
breasts. I was going to make sure everything is okay," Sara explained as she
undid the front clasp of my bra.

"Lindsay, where is she? I rather not start something that she might
interupt," I asked leering down at Sara.

"I had her start her homework, but you're right. I just came up here to see
what you were up to, and I thought I would wake you up," Sara said giving me a
kiss before climbing off the bed.

Oh you woke me up alright, I'm going to need to take a shower and take care
of things. I reclasp my bra before heading downstairs to see Lindsay. After
that, it might be a good idea if I cases to work tonight.

After helping Lindsay, Sara said she was going to lay down before dinner.
Lindsay and I ended up curling up on the couch while she told me how he day at
school went and hanging out at the park with Nancy and Sara.

Lindsay decided she wanted pancakes and eggs for dinner, and while she set
the table, I went to wake up Sara. The question is should I wake her up or stoop
to her level and wake her up.

I quietly opened her door not to disturb her. She was facing away from the
door as I came in. I placed a kiss on her lips as I watched her open her eyes. I
told her that dinner was ready as I handed her her crutches.

"Wow, I'm disapointed. I was figuring on payback," she said giving me a kiss
as she stood up.

"Yeah well, I am the mature one," I said walking ahead of her as she jabbed
me in the butt with a crutch.

------

The drive to the lab was quiet, but I wasn't real surprised. Sara is probably
a little nervous. She has only been working here a month before the accident. I
get out and head over to Sara's side. I give her a kiss as she climbed down
seeing that I might not get a chance tonight.

We stopped at my office to drop off our stuff before heading to the breakroom
to surprise the guys. I groan as I see the pile of paperwork on my desk.
Everytime I get close to the bottom, more shows up.

I walk ahead of her as we head off to what is on tap tonight. We are the first
ones here as she sits on the couch and puts her leg on the table. I hand her a
cup of coffee as I sit down beside her. Warrick and Nick walk in and were
heading for the game system when they realize Sara is here.

They both sit down to give to her a hug before sitting at the table seeing
that Gil just came in. I got paired up with Nick while Warrick and Gil took the
other. Gil told Sara that he informed the techs if they get swamped to give her
a call.

She grabbed my hand before I left. I told Nick that I would meet him at the
car. Sara looked around before giving me a kiss and telling me that she'll type
up my reports for me. I give her a kiss thanking her before helping her up.

Oh my, this is the night from hell, and it's only half over. The case Nick
and caught sucked. We went over the scene with a fine tooth comb and came up
with very little. Hopefully with the stuff we did get, we can solve it.

I tell I'll meet him in the layout room. Maybe after a kiss and cup of
coffee, we can figure out this case. I open my office door and notice that Sara
has cleaned my desk. I notice that all my casefiles are neatly stacked. I walk
over and give her a kiss before helping her up. I figure with her help, we
should have this case solved by the end of shift.

CHAPTER 10

Sara was ecstatic when we got home from work this morning. We ate breakfast
with Lindsay before taking her to school. I thought I might get a chance to
continue what Sara and I were doing yesterday, but she fell asleep on the way
home. After putting her to bed, I was about to leave, but she grabbed my hand
and asked me to stay.

I woke up to the alarm with my arms still wrapped around Sara. She rolled me
atop of her to give her a kiss. As much as I wanted to stay here, we both knew
we had to pick up Sara's partner in crime. I love how it fills my heart when I
see those two together.

I threw Sara some clothes before I headed upstairs to change. Sara has become
a little more self reliant, wanting to do more things herself without too much
help. I can understand it seeing that she was taking care of herself so long
without anyones help, but of course being a mom, I make sure that she doesn't
try to do too much.

When I get downstairs, she is holding out a cup of coffee for me. I take a
sip before giving her another kiss. On the drive over, she asked if we could
take Lindsay to the zoo on Saturday since we both had it off. I told her that it
was great idea, but Lindsay would final say. Although, I'm thinking Sara could
suggest almost anything, and Lindsay would say yes.

As I parked at the school, I handed Sara her crutches so she could climb out.
We held hands while we waited for Lindsay to come barrelling out the doors. I
hear Sara humming, but I can't put my finger on what song it is. The bell rings
and kids come running outside. I see Lindsay before she sees us.

She finally sees us and runs up and jumps in my arms to give me a hug. I hold
her up so she can give Sara a hug too. She gives a kiss on the cheek as she
tells us she got her Science test back that her and Sara studied for. I got her
buckled in as she pulled in out of her bag. She showed it to us, and it had a
big red A on it.

"Well, this calls for an ice cream celebration on me," Sara said as I had to
shake my head to get the image of Sara covered with ice cream out. I think she
had the same idea as she looked at me while she got in the car.

Lindsay sat between us as we ate our ice cream. I heard Sara whisper in
Lindsay's ear asking if we could go to the zoo on Saturday. She looked up at me
to see what I was going to say. I nodded as she handed me her garbage before
running for the swings.

After finishing our ice cream, Sara asked me if I would push her on the
swings. Lindsay was giggling when Sara sat down beside her. I took turns pushing
both my girls. Before we left, Lindsay wanted to push both of us.

When we got home, Sara helped Lindsay with her homework while I cleaned up
the house. I was finishing up folding up a load of clothes when I heard Lindsay
laughing. What I found when I came into the living room was Sara had Lindsay on
the couch pinned down tickling her again.

"Mommy, help," Lindsay said as I walked up behind Sara to make Lindsay think
I was going to help her, but I figured Lindsay asked for it so I helped Sara
tickle her instead.

Sara tells me as Lindsay was packing her stuff up for later that Lindsay
wrote Mommy loves Sara above the Sara loves Mom on her cast. At least it is a
good thing that Sara can wear pants to work so nobody sees it. She and I both
agree that it is a good idea to keep us a secret for awhile before telling
everybody about us dating.

----------
After dropping Lindsay off at Mom's, Sara and I headed into work. There was a
message taped to my door to meet Gil at the address. I dropped off my stuff
before giving Sara a kiss as I left. She told me she would check with the techs
to see what she could to do to help.

When I get to the scene, it is wall to wall people with lookie-lous
everywhere. I finally make my way to the team as Gil hands out assignments. He
tells me I'm going to be inside with him, but he wants someone to see if the
little girl knows anything. I suggest Sara, and he agrees. He went over to tell
an officer to take the little girl to Sara.

When I called and told Sara, she was a little nervous, but I told her to
treat her like she was Lindsay. I followed Gil inside and couldn't believe what
I saw. It was a massacre. I'm surprised the two girls survived. After getting
all the evidence together, we headed to the lab to try and figure out what
happened.

I went to find Sara when we got back to the lab because Gil wanted to see if
she could shed any light on the case. I found Sara talking to the little girl
while she colored. I knew no matter how this case turned out, that little girl
would be fine with Sara looking out for her.
