CHAPTER 1

    "Sidle," I answered.

    "Sara, it's Catherine. I need a favor?" Catherine asked.

    "What do you need?"

    "Gil called me in, and I need someone to watch Lindsay,"

    "Do you want me to come over or do you want to drop her off?"

    "I'd prefer if you'd come over,"

    "Okay, I'll see you in twenty,"

    What the hell did I just do? I barely know Lindsay. I have only met her twice
and now I'm offering my new collegue to babysit her as I changed into sweatpants
and an old Harvard t-shirt. I grabbed my keys and jacket before heading for
Catherine's house.

    Luckily, I picked her up for work one night so I remember where she lives. I
rang her doorbell, and she opened the door. "Sara, thank you for doing this. I
would have called my sister, but she is working," Catherine explained as I
entered. "It's no problem, I would have probably listened to my police scanner
until I fell asleep," I said smiling. "Help yourself to anything in the fridge,
and with tomorrow being Saturday, Lindsay can stay up until eleven, but no
longer. Don't let her tell you otherwise," she explained.

    "Got it, I think I can handle one seven year old," I said smiling. "Okay, but
don't say I didn't warn you," Catherine said leaving. I guess I should look
around to acclimate myself with the place. The downstairs had a living, dining,
and bathrooms plus the kitchen. I headed upstairs to say hi to Lindsay. I knew
which door was hers by the Lindsay license plate on the door.

    I knocked on her door and heard her turn the music down before opening the
door. "Hi Sara, do you know anything about math?" Lindsay asked. "Yeah, what are
you guys up to,?" I asked as she handed me her math book. I saw they were doing
fractions, and I showed her an easy way to do them. "Do you want to watch a
movie?" she asked after finishing her homework.

    I can't believe I sat through the Spice Girls movie, but Lindsay liked it so
I endured it. I noticed that she was falling asleep so I picked her up to tuck
her in. "I need to brush my teeth first," Lindsay said showing me where the
upstairs bathroom was. "I'll meet you in your room, I have to use the bathroom
first," I said.

    I headed back for her room to tuck her in, but she had a book in her hand.
"Mom reads me a story before I go to sleep," Lindsay said handing me the book. I
noticed halfway through the book that Lindsay had fallen asleep, but I finished
the book anyway. When I woke up, I noticed Lindsay was laying on top of me, and
we were covered up.

    I must have been really comfortable because I fell back asleep. I woke up the
second time when Lindsay was getting up. "Morning Sara, sorry about the sleeping
on you. I get a little clingy when someone sleeps in my bed," Lindsay explained.
"Don't worry about it, it's been a long time since I've done this," I said. "You
have a kid too, Mom's never mentioned," Lindsay said as I ran out of the room.

    I ran to the bathroom and sat down on the toilet. I was crying into my hands
when someone knocked on the door. "Sara, it's Catherine. Are you okay?" she
asked through the door. "Yeah," I said wiping my eyes. "Can I come in?"
Catherine asked. "Sure," I said. Catherine walked in and kneeled down in front
of me. "What did Lindsay do?" she asked.

    "Oh god, I'm sorry. I probably scared her," I said. "No, she's just a worried
about you. What did she say to make you cry?" Catherine asked touching my knee.
"When I woke up with Lindsay on top of me, it reminded me of Hope," I said
wiping away more tears. "I don't mean to make you cry, but who is Hope?" she
asked.

    "Can we talk about this somewhere else?" I asked. "Sure, let me get Lindsay
situated downstairs, and we can talk in my room," Catherine said. As she left, I
thought to myself that I haven't talk about it since it happened. I just grieved
and threw myself into my work. I still can't believe it's been seven years since
I lost them.

    "I told Lindsay I would explain later if that's okay," Catherine said letting
me lean on her. She sat me down on her bed and pulled a chair up to sit in front
of me. "Take your time, I'm not going anywhere," she said. "Hope was my
daughter. She was killed in a car accident with my wife seven years ago," I said
starting to cry again.

    "Oh Sara, I'm sorry," Catherine said pulling me into a hug. She let me cry on
her shoulder for I don't know how long. She was rubbing my back which was
helping me feel better. "I'm sorry Catherine, I'm getting your blouse all wet,"
I said. "Sweetie, don't worry about it. I've had worse on my clothes," she said
wiping my face.

    "Yeah, me too," I said. "You don't have to continue, if you don't want to,"
Catherine said. "No, I want to tell you the whole story. I met Rachel in
college. She was my Psychology professor my sophomre year. We didn't start
dating until I was a junior. She was a little nervous about our age difference,
but I didn't care," I explained taking a deep breath.

    "Do you want to stop?" Catherine asked as I shook my head. "My senior year,
we discussed having kids. I told her I would carry it because I was a better
candidate. She wanted us to be married before we tried. After we were married, a
mutual friend of ours said he would like to be the donor, and I got pregnant on
the first try. When I graduated, I looked like a blimp in my gown. After Hope
was born, I took a year off before starting my job at CSI. I had a hard time
working the first time I left Hope with Rachel's sister. We had just enrolled
Hope in kindergarten the same week she and Rachel were killed," I said breaking
down in Catherine's arms again.

CHAPTER 2

After cleaning myself up, I headed back to Catherine's room. "Ready to face
Lindsay?" she asked. "Yeah, but you're not going. You worked last night and are
working tonight. You're going to bed while Lindsay and I are grabbing some
lunch," I said. "Are you sure?" Catherine asked. "Yes, now sleep," I said
sternly.

    I walked down the steps a little nervously, but I knew if Lindsay is anything
like her mom, I don't have anything to worry about. "Hi Sara, are you feeling
better?" Lindsay asked. "Yeah I am kiddo, but we'll talk about this morning
after lunch, okay," I said as Lindsay nodded. We went to Subway and stopped by
my apartment to grab some clothes for tonight.

    I left Lindsay in my living room while I headed for my bedroom. I headed back
to Lindsay and noticed she was looking at a picture of me, Rachel, and Hope.
"Hey kiddo bring that with you, it will help when we talk," I said. I put the
picture in my bag and took Lindsay's hand as we headed back to the car. Lindsay
was quiet on the way back to her house.

    We discussed school while we were eating. I didn't really want to get into
anything heavy during lunch. After throwing away the garbage, I joined Lindsay
on the couch. I told Lindsay the story I told Catherine this morning, and she
started crying. "Shh sweetie, it's okay," I said rocking her on my lap. "I can't
believe that happened to you Sara," Lindsay said wrapping her arms around my
neck.

    "I can't either kiddo, but you and your mom have made me feel better today,"
I said kissing her forehead. "You know Mom has dated women before," Lindsay said
smiling. "Really, it doesn't bother you that I'm gay," I said. "No, my friend
Amanda has two moms, and they are really nice. Sara, love is something you feel
for someone no matter what their gender," Lindsay explained.

    "You are a very understanding girl Linds. Your mom has done a done a great
job raising you," I said giving her a hug. Lindsay and I watched some TV before
I started dinner. I had Lindsay help me with the vegetables for salad while I
took care of the sauce for the pasta. "Hey doodlebug, go wake up your mom while
I finish up," I said smiling. "Doodlebug?" Lindsay questioned.

    "It was one of my nicknames for Hope. I wanted to see your reaction to it," I
said as Lindsay smiled before running up the steps. I feel better than I have in
years. I don't know whether it's the fact that I told Catherine and Lindsay what
happened or that I have finally grieved my loss, for the first time. "Mmm,
something smells good," Catherine said entering the kitchen.

    "I figured it's the least I can do for what you and Linds did for me today,"
I said smiling. "Sara, that's what friends do. I feel honored that you shared it
with me," Catherine said sitting down. "I don't mind if you call me doodlebug,"
Lindsay said whispering in my ear. "What, you guys spend one day together, and
you're already keeping secrets," Catherine said.

    "Oh my goodness Sara, that was delicious. I should keep you so nobody else
gets your cooking," Catherine said. "Why Miss Willows, are you asking me out
because I have it on good authority that I'm your type," I said winking at
Lindsay. "Lindsay Elizabeth Willows," Catherine said as Lindsay and I started to
laugh.

    "Catherine, if it helps at all. I would say yes. I have never been able to
say no to beatiful women," I said starting to pick up the dishes. "No, you relax
with Lindsay. I will clean up," Catherine said ushering us out. "Come on
doodlebug, let's watch some cartoons," I said picking up Lindsay. I noticed
Catherine gave me a look at my choice of nicknames.

    "Sara, can we go to my room? I have to get my stuff ready for when Aunt Nancy
comes," Lindsay said. After she packed her bag, we laid on her bed and listened
to the radio while I ran my fingers through her hair. I noticed Catherine
standing in the hallway smiling, but I didn't say anything because I didn't want
to embarass her. "Lindsay, your aunt's here," Catherine yelled up the stairs.

    "Sara, are you going to be here before I go to school?" Lindsay asked as
getting off the bed. "If you want to be, I would love to," I said as she hugged
my neck. I carried her down the steps, and I saw Catherine talking to a slightly
older version of herself. "Nancy, this is Sara. Sara, my sister Nancy,"
Catherine said introducing us. "Nice to meet you," we said together.

    I watched Lindsay give her mom a hug and whisper something in her ear.
Catherine gave her sister a hug, and Nancy smiled at me while whispering
something in Catherine's ear. I had a smile on my face when Catherine shut the
door. "What?" she asked. "Why do I have this feeling that both things that were
said to you were about me?" I asked smiling.

    "Miss Sidle, are you insinuating that my sister and daughter were talking
about you," Catherine said smirking. "So, that's how it's going to be. You do
realize that two can play this game," I said. "Don't sing it, bring it,"
Catherine said as I laughed at her phrase. "I see Lindsay has rubbed off on you
too," I said. "I could say the same for you. I was wondering if you needed to
stop at your place before work?" she asked.

    "No, I grabbed clothes when Lindsay and I got lunch," I said as I headed for
the bathroom to change. Catherine and I drove to work together considering I was
coming back in the morning. "Evening ladies, what's with the carpool?" Nick
asked. "I babysat Lindsay last night, and she wants me to eat breakfast with her
in the morning," I explained.

    Catherine needed to get something from her locker, so I headed for the
breakroom. "Sara, so how did the night go with the littlest Willows?" Warrick
asked smiling. "It was fun. We watched a movie, I read her a story, and woke up
being used as a bed," I said smiling.

CHAPTER 3

After Warrick and I cleared our case, I headed for the breakroom to see if
Catherine was ready to go. I found her sitting on the couch laughing with Nick.
"Hey Nick, Catherine you ready?" I asked smiling. "If you are," she said patting
Nick on the leg. I let Catherine drive home since I drove us to work. "Sara, I
don't want to upset you, but why are you calling Lindsay, doodlebug?" she asked.

    "No it's okay, As I told her, it was one of the nicknames I called Hope, and
she whispered in my ear that she didn't mind it," I explained. "When she gave me
that hug last night, she told me you were coming over for breakfast," Catherine
said. "Well that explains that, but what did Nancy say, and why was she smiling
at me saying it?" I questioned.

    Catherine just smiled at me as we pulled into the driveway. She got out of
the car and headed for the house not answering my question. "Mommy, Sara,"
Lindsay said running at us giving us both hugs. "Morning Linds," Catherine said
kissing her head. "Good morning doodlebug," I said. "Sara, can you come here a
minute?" Nancy asked from the kitchen.

    Catherine and Lindsay both shrugged their shoulders as I headed for the
kitchen. "Nice to see you again Nancy," I said. "Sara, I love my sister, and I
don't like to see her get hurt. Eddie has done a real number on her, and she is
a little gunshy about dating. I just wanted to let you know that if you hurt my
sister, there will be consequences," Nancy explained.

    "Whoa slow down, Catherine and I haven't even decided to date, so you can
save the protective sister routine," I said. "Trust me Sara, she wants to ask,
but she also wants to give you a little time after what happened yesterday
morning. And before you jump down her throat, she didn't tell me what it was,
just that it was personal," Nancy explained.

    Nancy and I were hugging when Catherine and Lindsay came in. "Sara, what did
she do?" Catherine asked. "I told Catherine that you were beautiful when I
whispered in her ear last night," Nancy said whispering in my ear. "Nothing, we
just talked, and she gave me a hug," I said winking at Nancy. After breakfast, I
took Lindsay outside.

    "Lindsay, I'm going to go. If you need help with your homework that your mom
can't do, give me a call," I said giving her a hug. I made sure Lindsay made it
back into the house before I pulled away. I can't believe that I am here barely
a month, and I have a family who seems to love me. I haven't felt like this
since meeting Rachel's family.

    When I got home, there was a message on the machine. I figure it's Lindsay
wishing me sweet dreams. I pushed the button as the message started. 'Hey Sara,
I'm in town for a few days and wanted to let you know so you weren't surprised
if you saw me' the voice said. This is exactly what I don't need especially
after yesterday morning.

    I haven't spoken to Lexie since the last time at Rachel and Hope's grave. I
took a shower and dressed for bed. When my alarm went off at three, I got
dressed to go jogging. I was glad that I slept really well considering the last
couple days. Normally when I have days that are emotional, the feelings I get
cloud my head, and I barely sleep.

    After my run and shower, I turned on the Discovery Channel to see what it's
showing. It's an episode of Mythbusters. I leave it on to see what crazy stuff
they are going to do. After it was over, I turned on the stereo and went to the
kitchen to make myself some dinner. I got dressed for work after washing the
dishes and sat down on the couch to relax before I left.

    I dropped some stuff off in my locker before heading to the breakroom to
await assignments. Warrick, Nick, and I exchanged hello nods as they came in.
They went straight for the video games which means slow night. Catherine came in
giving me a smile as she headed for the coffee pot.

    Gil came in right after her and was about to say something until the intercom
stopped him. 'Sara Sidle, you have a guest at the visitor's desk.' I patted
Grissom on the shoulder as I passed him. I think Catherine is following me to
make I'm going to be okay. As the person turned around, I saw it was Lexie, and
I lost it.

    She came running towards me as I was heading for the floor. "Sara I'm sorry,
if I would have known this was going to be your reaction. I wouldn't have come,"
Lexie said catching me. "It's not you," I said between sobs. "Um Sara, not to
make light of your feelings, but there is a blond power walking over here
looking to probably kick my ass," Lexie said. "Catherine," I said starting to
regain some composure.

    "Catherine stop, is there anyplace we can talk privately?" Lexie asked still
hugging me. Catherine led us to her office. By the time we got there, I had
regained most of my composure. "Catherine, this is my sister Lexie, Lexie, this
is Catherine," I said wiping my eyes with a kleenex.

    "I thought you said you only had a brother," Catherine said. "Boy, you really
are blond. You've seen a picture of Rachel and don't see the resemblance," I
said as I got hit with a pillow by Catherine. "Can I talk to you outside?" Lexie
asked Catherine. "Lex, don't give her the protective sister speech," I said.

    "Why not, Nancy gave you hers last night. I'll be fine," Catherine said
touching my shoulder before she left. I noticed her walls are covered with
pictures of Lindsay at various parties. That's what hurts the most, knowing that
I won't experience this with Rachel and Hope.

CHAPTER 4

I turned around when I heard the door opening, and Catherine and Lexie came
in laughing. Catherine smiled at me when our eyes met. "Sara, we ran into Gil
outside, and he said you should Lexie out to dinner, but leave your phone on,"
Catherine said. "Okay, so what are you hungry for Lex?" I asked. "Whatever, it's
the company that counts," Lexie said smiling.

    I touched Catherine's arm as I passed her. The ride to the restaurant was a
little quieter than I would have liked. "Sara, it's been seven years, so why did
you react that way when you saw me?" Lexie asked. "Yesterday morning, after
babysitting Lindsay, I woke up with her sleeping on top of me," I said smiling.
"Just like Hope, wait, who's Lindsay?" she asked.

    "Catherine's daughter, she got called into work, and her sister was busy, so
she called me," I explained. "So why haven't you asked her out already?" Lexie
asked. "She's giving me space after hearing about Rachel and Hope," I said.
"Like I said, why haven't 'you' asked her out?" she asked.

    "I'm scared," I said. "Sara, I can't tell you that nothing will happen to
Catherine or Lindsay, but this is something you can't pass up. All I can tell
you is, talk to her," Lexie said. We discussed what's been going on since I came
to Vegas through the rest of dinner. "I'm just going to get a cab and head to a
hotel so you can get back to work," she said.

    "No, I'm going to drop you off at my place, and then I go back to work," I
said. I stopped by Grissom's office to see if anybody needed help. "Hey Sara,
how was dinner?" he asked. "Good, she gave me some things to think about," I
said smiling. "Sorry, there's nothing yet, why don't you go relax," he said. I
headed for Catherine's office to see if she was busy, but she wasn't there.

    I decided to stretch out on her couch to wait for her. "Sara," Catherine said
lightly nudging me. "Hey, when you get back?" I asked sitting up. "About five
minutes ago, how long have you been here?" she asked. "Little over an hour, I
checked in with Gil when I came back, and then ended up here," I said glancing
at the clock.

    "How was dinner?" Catherine asked. "Good, Lexie, told me I should talk to
you," I said. "About what?" she asked. "I would like to have dinner with you
sometime, but I'm afraid," I said. "Of what?" she asked. "I'm scared that we'll
get close and something will happen to you and Lindsay," I said starting to well
up. "Oh sweetie," she said pulling me into a hug.

    "Maybe one of these days we can hug when it doesn't involve me crying," I
said trying to lighten the mood. "Yeah, maybe we can hug over me crying,"
Catherine said making us both laugh. "Thank you, I needed that," I said hugging
her. "How about I make us dinner before work tonight. I can get Nancy to take
Lindsay early," Catherine suggested.

    "No, well yes to dinner, but no to Lindsay. She is your daughter, and if we
start dating I want her to be a part of this," I said. "Sara, keep saying things
like that, and I'll never let you go," Catherine said. "Promise," I said. "Let's
see how dinner goes, you might have bad table manners," she said smiling.

    "Trust me Catherine, I have better uses for my fingers," I said smirking.
"Sara Sidle, that's the kind of dirty talk I don't want my daughter to hear,"
Catherine said. "Don't worry when she's around, I'll be on my best behavior, but
when it's you and me, all bets are off," I said. "I guess what they say about
the quiet ones is true," she said.

    I walked into my apartment and smelled something cooking. I headed for the
kitchen and found Lexie making breakfast. "Lex, you're a guest. You didn't have
to make me breakfast," Oh please, I know how you eat while you're working,"
Lexie said.

    "Fine, I know when I can't win, but you'll have to find your own dinner
plans," I said smiling. "So, you and Catherine are done being stupid," Lexie
said laughing. "Yeah, we decided to start out slow, so she making dinner tonight
with Lindsay as our chaperone," I said sitting down as Lexie handed me a plate.

    After breakfast, I took a shower before I laid down. I woke up to my alarm
and headed down the hall to see what Lexie was up to. I found her on the couch
reading a book. "Sleep well sis?" she asked looking up. "Yeah I did, better than
I have in a long time," I said smiling. She got off the couch and gave me a hug.
"Rachel would want you to be happy," she said into my ear.

    It took me three tries for Lexie to approve my outfit. She pulled me into
another hug before I left. I pulled into Catherine's driveway, and Lindsay came
running out. "Sara!" she yelled as I knelt down so she could hug me. "Hey
doodlebug, how was school?" I asked picking her up and heading inside.

    "It was okay, but I don't need any homework help. So you and Mom will have to
entertain yourselves," Lindsay said smiling. "I guess so," I said putting her
down. I walked into the kitchen and noticed Catherine looked ravishing. "Wow
Catherine, you look gorgeous," I said smiling. "So do you, but I had help," she
said smiling.

    "Yeah, I did too. Lexie made me change three times, and this was after she
made me breakfast this morning," I said. "Thank her for me and since I'm making
dinner, you have to find something to do," Catherine said shooing me out of the
kitchen. I decided to head upstairs to what Lindsay was up to.

CHAPTER 5

"Come in," Lindsay said as I knocked on her door. "Mom kick you out of the
kitchen. She does the same thing to me," she said. "Yeah, but that's because she
doesn't want you to hurt yourself," I said sitting on the bed beside her. "I
know. She told me that she didn't want you to help because she is cooking for
you," she said.

    "So, how do we pass the time before dinner's ready?" I asked. "We could just
sit back relax and listen to the radio," Lindsay suggested. "Sounds good to me,"
I said as Lindsay laid her head against my side. I looked around her room to see
what kinds of things she likes. I noticed that she had the picture of me,
Rachel, and Hope on her bedside table.

    I gave Lindsay a one armed hug as she noticed that I saw the picture. "I was
going to give that back the next time I saw you," Lindsay said. "You keep it. I
have plenty pictures of them," I said kissing the top of her head. "Shh, Mom's
coming act like you're sleeping," Lindsay said as I tilted my head back and
closed my eyes.

    "Oh that's just great, I have to put up with two kids. I guess I'll have to
find a way to wake you up," Catherine said. I wanted to open my eyes to see
what's coming, but I didn't. I felt Catherine's lips touch mine, and as I was
about to get into it, she pulled away. "Hey, that was about to get good," I
said.

    "Well, that's what you get for following Lindsay's plan," Catherine said.
"What did you expect me to do. You kicked me out of the kitchen, so I picked the
other Willows to bond with," I said smiling. "Well if it means anything, I am a
little jealous. Lindsay's cuddled with you twice," she said pouting.

    "I guess we'll have to schedule cuddling then," I said. "Count on it, now
let's eat," Catherine said smiling. Lindsay went ahead of us as we headed
downstairs. When I got to the table, Catherine pulled out my chair. "Thank you,"
I said sitting down. "Your welcome, I made you pasta primavera," Catherine said
putting my plate down.

    "How did you know I'm a vegetarian?" I asked. "Sara, I'm a CSI. I watch
people and notice things," Catherine said smiling. "Mom, what did you make me?"
Lindsay asked. "I made your favorite, fish sticks, french fries, and creamed
corn," Catherine said giving Lindsay her plate. Catherine finally sat down with
her own pasta primavera.

    "Oh my goodness Catherine, this is delicious," I said. Lindsay told us about
her day while we ate, while Catherine and I kept stealing glances at each other.
After dinner, Catherine and I did the dishes, after I wouldn't let her do them
by herself. "Thank you Catherine, dinner was great," I said softly kissing her
lips.

    "Your welcome Sara," Catherine said returning the kiss. We decided to relax
on the couch until Nancy picked up Lindsay. Catherine leaned against me
snuggling into my side as I wrapped my arm around her. "Comfy, isn't she Mom?"
Lindsay asked smiling. "Yeah sweetie, she is," Catherine said taking my hand.
    "Come here Linds," I said patting my lap. Lindsay was sitting on my lap when
the door was unlocked and opened. "Hey Nanc," Catherine said. "Hey Cath, what's
with the Sara sofa?" Nancy asked. "Mom was jealous because I got Sara cuddles
before she did," Lindsay said giggling. "Twice actually," I said joining in.
"Hey, sitting right here," Catherine said.

    "Ready Linds?" Nancy asked. Lindsay gave me a hug before getting off. "See
you in the morning Mom," Lindsay said giving her mom a hug and kiss. "Bye guys,"
Nancy said as she left. "I'd like to do this again," I said. "What are you doing
this weekend?" Catherine asked. "I don't know. I'll have to check my schedule,"
I said smiling.

    "I've seen this schedule of yours. It said dancing on Saturday with
Catherine," she said putting her head on my lap. "Dancing, that sounds like
fun," I said playing with her hair. "Well then, I guess it's a date," Catherine
said. As she walked me to my car, I turned around. "Can I get a goodnight kiss?"
I asked. Catherine pulled me to her and gave me the tenderest kiss.

    I got to work before Catherine, so I headed to the breakroom to wait. "Wow
Sara, you look amazing. Hot date?" Nick asked. "Yeah, I had a wonderful dinner
before work," I said smiling. I was pouring myself a cup of coffee when
Catherine walked in.

    "Well, I guess Sara wasn't the only pretty woman with a date tonight," Nick
said as I winked at Catherine. "Yes, I had a lovely dinner with a new friend,"
she said smiling. "I get it. You two had first dates and don't want to jinx
them," Nick said sitting down at the table.

    "Exactly," I said as Catherine touched my hand as she passed me. "Sara, these
came for you," Gil said handing me flowers. I read the card. 'Sara, I had a
wonderful evening, and I can't wait to do it again. C'. "I got to find something
to put these in," I said looking around.

    "I have an empty vase in my office that I'm not using. Gil, we'll be right
back," Catherine said as I followed her to her office. Once we got inside, I
gave her a kiss. "Catherine, you didn't have to get me flowers," I said smiling.
"Sara, yes I did. It has been forever that I have felt like this, and I wanted
to thank you for that," she said touching my cheek.

CHAPTER 6

It's been a month since Catherine and I have started dating. Nobody from work
knows, and that's how we like it for now. Catherine told Eddie the first time he
picked up Lindsay who is extremely ecstatic. Nancy is happy as well because she
can hang out with her friends the nights I babysit.

    I was heading back to the lab after getting the suspect in my case to
confess. I'm hoping to catch Catherine in her office, but she wasn't there. "Hey
Sara, you looking for Catherine?" Greg asked. "Yeah, I wanted to ask her
something about a case," I said. "Nobody told you," he said. "Nobody told me
what?" I asked.

    "Catherine got attacked at a crime scene. I don't know the specifics, but
she's at Desert Palms, now," Greg said. I wanted to cry, but I knew if I started
now, I might not stop. "Thanks Greg," I said running to my car. I turned the
radio up a little louder than usual to keep from thinking too much.

    I pulled into the hospital parking lot and took a couple calming breaths
before walking inside. As I entered, Nancy hugged me when she saw me come in.
"Thank god you're here Sara," she said. "What happened?" I asked. "From what I
was told there was someone still in the house that Catherine was working. She
surprised him, and he smashed her head against the wall," Nancy explained.

    "He didn't?" I asked still holding back most of my tears. "No, Nick got there
right after Catherine went down, and the police caught the guy while Nick took
care of Catherine," Nancy explained. "Am I allowed to see her?" I asked. "Yeah,
but I have to warn you that Gil is here," she said. "I don't care. Catherine is
more important than our secret," I said.

    Nancy and I got off on Catherine's floor, and when Lindsay saw me she ran
towards me. "Sara," she said jumping in my arms. "Hey doodlebug, it's going to
be okay, I promise," I said. I saw this familiar looking older woman coming
towards us. "You must be the famous Sara, I'm hearing about," she said. "I am,
but have we met?" I asked.

    "Sara, this is Catherine and I's mother, Lily," Nancy said. "It's nice to
meet you Lily, but I wish it wasn't like this," I said starting to cry. "I do
too, but from what I hear from what I hear from my girls. It's like I've known
you as long as they have," Lily said giving me a hug. I looked up and saw that
Gil was motioning me to come see him.

    "I'll be right back," I said kissing Lindsay's cheek and handing her to
Nancy. I tried to blink back the tears, but it wasn't working all that well.
"Sara, what are you doing here?" Gil asked. "Greg told me what happened so I
came to see how she is," I said seeing how long I could lie. "What was with the
family display over there?" he asked.

    "I babysit for Catherine from time to time, and since then they have started
treating me like family," I said. "Then what's with the crying?" Gil asked as I
started to get pissed off. "Follow me," I said walking into the stairwell.
"What's so important that you had to drag me out here?" he asked. "Catherine and
I have been going out for the last month, and that's the real reason why I'm
here," I explained.

    "So you two have been hiding this from us," Gil said staring to yell. "No,
this has nothing to do with work. What Catherine and I do on our own time is our
business," I said yelling back. "Hey, would you two knock it off. They're
setting Catherine up in her room," Nancy said stopping the fight before it got
worse.

    "Stay here, I'll work the case with Nick, but we will talk about this later,"
Gil said. "Can't wait," I said loaded with sarcasm. "What was that all about?"
Nancy asked. "Grissom's upset that we kept our relationship secret from him," I
said. "Whatever, let's go see that girl of yours," she said putting her arm
around me.

    We walked back into the waiting room, and Lindsay and Lily had worried looks
on their faces. "What?" I asked. "Is everything okay?" Lindsay asked. "Yeah,
let's go see your mom," I said caressing her cheek. Nancy kept her arm around me
as we walked down the hall. I put my head on her shoulder as we reached
Catherine's door.

    "Hey Lumpy," I said smiling walking over to her and kissing her. "I see
you've met Mom," Catherine said. "Yeah I did. When did I become famous?" I
asked. "The way Lindsay talks about you to her grandma makes you sound it,"
Catherine said smiling. "Hi Mommy," Lindsay said coming up beside me. "Hi
sweetie," Catherine said as I sat Lindsay in bed beside her.

    "Uncle Gil was yelling at Sara," Lindsay said as I cringed hoping to avoid
this conversation. "Sis, Mom and I will take Lindsay home, so you and Sara can
talk," Nancy said smiling at me as she picked up Lindsay. As soon as the door
shut, Catherine looked at me. "Why was Gil yelling at you?" she asked. "He asked
what I was doing here, and I tried not to tell him, but he asked why I was
crying which is when I told him we were dating," I explained.

    "That's not it is it?" Catherine asked. "No, he wants to talk to us when you
get out," I said. "Let's not worry about that now. I want spend time with my
girl," she said kissing my hand. "I love you," I said smiling. "Well that's good
because I love you too," she said as I softly kissed her lips.

    "I knew it," Greg said scaring the crap out of us. "Greg, what are you doing
here?" I asked. "I was on my way home and wanted to see how Catherine was
doing," he said smiling. "What do you mean by 'you knew it'?" I asked. "As much
as I would like to explain this, I'm tired. Sara, take Greg out to breakfast and
fill him in," Catherine said yawning.

CHAPTER 7

I gave Catherine a chaste kiss on the lips before leaving. "Let's go," I said
grabbing Greg by the arm and leading him out. As we got in the car, he had a
stupid looking smile on his face, but he still hasn't said anything.

    After arriving at the diner, Greg decided to sit across from me. The waitress
took our drink orders and said she would be back for our orders in a couple
minutes. "Are you going to ask or do you want me just to tell you?" I asked
trying to see if he was finally going to speak.

    "How long have you two been seeing each other?" he asked. I explained most of
the story, but I didn't tell him about Rachel or Hope. I probably will, but not
anytime soon. The waitress comes back with our drinks, and I got a western
omelet, and Greg decided on a short stack with home fries.

    I think he noticed the tenderness of the subject, so he changed the subject
to what's been going on at work. He was telling me funny stories about the guys
that happened before I got there. He told me this one story that Nick told him
about how Catherine ended up covered in mud. Apparently after an all day rain
storm she lost her footing getting to a scene and slid down a muddy hillside.

    "So, what was it like in Frisco?" he asked. I told him how I came to know
Grissom and about it was pretty much the same as here. He tried to get me to
tell him about any girlfriends I had, but I just said there were a couple and
left it at that. The waitress brought us the check, and Greg waved me off as I
grabbed for it.

    I gave him a kiss on the cheek as I walked him to his car when we got back to
the hospital. I stopped in the hospital gift shop before heading to Catherine's
room. I found this cute bear holding a heart that said 'Get Well Soon'. I
knocked on her door in case she was still sleeping. "Come in," I heard Catherine
say through the door. As I entered, I saw that Nick and Warrick were sitting at
her bedside.

    "Guys," I said holding the bear at my side.

    "Sara, come to give Catherine a get well present," Warrick said with the same
smile Greg had earlier.

    I felt my face get red after hearing what Warrick said, and Nick tried to
hide his smile. "Guys, leave her alone. Sara, they're just teasing. Gil told
them about us, but as you can tell they don't care," Catherine explained. Nick
and Warrick both agreed that if Catherine was happy, they were happy. They both
gave me a hug as they left.

    I gave Catherine a kiss before I gave her the bear. I told her that Greg
didn't have a problem with us either, so it was just going to be Gil having a
problem. I sat down in the chair and rested my head on her arm as she ran her
fingers through my hair. It must have been soothing because the next thing I
know Lily is waking me up.

    "Sara, come on I take you home," she said helping me up. I was pretty much
leaning on her as she led me down to her car. My next recollection was of her
waking me back up and leading me into the house. She sat me down on the bed and
took off my shoes before tucking me in.

    I woke up hearing talking in the hallway. I sat up and realized that I wasn't
at home. I figured out that Lily must have brought me to Catherine's house
because I fell asleep before I could tell her where I lived. I heard someone
knock on the door. "Come in," I said leaning against the headboard.

    "Sara," Lindsay said climbing on the bed to give me a hug. She told me that
her grandma told her I was here when she picked her up from school. She told me
that she could use my help with some of her homework. I told her to take it to
the dining room, and I would meet her there after I went to the bathroom.

    Lily handed me a cup of coffee when I came into the kitchen. I thank her for
taking care of me. She gave me a hug and thanked me for making Catherine happy.
I told her the feeling was mutual. She walked me out of the kitchen as she
headed back to the living room.

    Lindsay and I made quick work of her homework. When Lindsay went to her room
to drop off her stuff, I decided to join Lily in the living room. "Um Lily, can
you take me to the hospital so I can pick up my car?" I asked. She said it
wasn't a problem, she wanted to know if I could watch Lindsay tonight since
Nancy was working, and she had a church function. I told her it wouldn't be a
problem, but I would need to pick up some things at my place.

CHAPTER 8

"Can we stop in and say goodnight to Mommy?" Lindsay asked. Lily and I looked
at each other and told her it would be fine. I picked up Lindsay as we headed
for the car. Lindsay begged me to sit in the back seat with her while Lily
smiled.

    Lindsay and I were thumb wrestling during the ride. She beat me everytime,
but only because I was letting her. Although, I did make her work for it. I saw
Lily smiling through the rear view mirror at us a couple times while we were
playing.

    Lily walked ahead of us as we entered the hospital. When we got off on
Catherine's floor, I heard yelling coming from her room. I gave Lindsay to her
grandmother and told her to wait until I came back. I yanked open Catherine's
door and saw Gil.

    "What the hell are you doing here?" I asked getting between him and
Catherine.

    "I just came to talk, and Catherine had a problem with the subject," Gil said
smirking.

    I escorted him outside and told Lily to take Lindsay to see her mom. I told
Lindsay I would be in in a minute. I walked up to Gil and got in his face. "What
the hell do you think you're doing? She's in the hospital. If you have a
problem, you discuss it with me, not her," I said staring into his eyes.

    "What are you doing Sara, trying again? Does Catherine know you killed your
first wife and daughter?" Gil asked evilly walking away. I stood shocked at what
I just heard. I can't believe he would say that. I ran in the direction he went
hoping to catch him before I started to cry.

    I caught up with him in the stairwell. I walked up behind him and turned him
around. He started to say something, but I punched him in the face before he got
a chance to. "Thank you Sara, you are suspended pending an investigation," Gil
said wiping the blood from his mouth.

    I walked back up to Catherine's room a little in shock. Lily was waiting
outside her room when she saw me come up the hallway. "Sara, what's wrong?" she
asked wrapping me up in a hug as I started crying. She took me into the restroom
to get away from prying eyes.

    She sat me down on a toilet and handed me tissues from her purse. She asked
me what was wrong again, and I told her I was suspended for punching Gil. I knew
what her next question would be so I told her about Rachel and Hope, and what
Gil had said that caused me to hit him.

    "Sara, I'm so sorry. You do know that it wasn't your fault, right?" Lily
asked. I told that I did, but it doesn't mean what he said didn't hurt. She took
my hand, and we headed back to see Catherine. She told me that she would take
Lindsay home so we could talk.

    I waited outside until Lily brought out Lindsay. I gave her a hug and told
that I would be there shortly. I know this conversation with Catherine is
probably not going to be fun. I open up the door and put on my best fake smile
as I walk up beside her.

    "You can put that away. I'm not buying it," Catherine said taking my hand. I
sat down in the chair and told her everything that happened outside. I looked at
her as she got the biggest smile on her face. She told me not to worry about my
suspension. She would take care of it.

    "I should get going, I watching Lindsay tonight, but I'll be here in the
morning to pick you up," I said giving her a kiss. I headed for the parking lot
in a better mood. I'm thinking of calling Lexie tonight to talk.

    Arriving at my place, I grabbed a couple days worth of clothes in case
Catherine would need help with Lindsay when she come homes tomorrow. I grabbed a
water from the fridge before leaving and heading to Catherine's. Lindsay must
have been waiting for me because she ran to me as I got out of the car.

    "Sara, are you feeling better?" Lindsay asked as I grabbed my bag from the
back seat.

    "Yeah, your mom kissed me and made everything better doodlebug," I said as
she took my hand heading for the house.

    Lily noticed I was in a better mood when I came inside. She gave me a hug as
she headed out the door. Lindsay told me that her grandma called for a pizza so
I didn't have to worry about dinner. I sat down on the couch with Lindsay to
watch TV until the food got here. I am starting to wonder what Catherine meant
by taking care of it.

CHAPTER 9

Lindsay was taking her bath while I finished cleaning up after dinner. I
decided to call Lexie while I waited for Lindsay and tell her that I might be
coming for a visit considering I have time on my hands.

    After telling her what Grissom had said and my subsequent retaliation. She
couldn't believe he would throw that up in my face. She told me that Mom and Dad
would love to see me and maybe even bring the girl that stole their daughter's
heart. I still tear up when I hear them talk about me like that. I told her that
I would discuss it with Catherine and see.

    "Discuss what with Mom?" Lindsay asked coming into the room. I told Lex that
I would call her back with whatever we decided. She told me she loved me before
hanging up. I smiled at Lindsay after hanging up and told her what I was talking
about.

    "You know that I'm on Spring Break next week," she said smiling. I told her
that we would talk to her mom about it before deciding. We ended up watching a
movie before I put her to bed. I noticed halfway through she was falling asleep,
so I picked her up and tucked her in.

    I went downstairs to make sure everything was locked up and shut off before
heading to the spare room. I laid down and grabbed the book I brought over. I
was started to nod off after a couple chapters, so I marked my page and was
about to turn out the light when I heard Lindsay knocking on my door.

   "Come in," I said sitting up as Lindsay came in with her stuffed monkey.

    "Can I sleep in here? I had a bad dream," Lindsay asked. I scooted over and
patted the space beside me. I told her that I would keep the bad dreams away as
I wrapped my arm around her. I kissed the top of her head as I laid down, and
she curled up against me.

    I felt something fuzzy on my face and try to swat it away,but it just
shifted. I threw it off my face with a scream which made Lindsay shoot out of
bed. After focusing my eyes, I saw Catherine, Nancy, and Lily all laughing at me
from the hallway.

    "Look out Sara, Jojo was trying to get you," Catherine said trying to contain
her laughter. I laid back down and threw the covers over my face to hide how red
it was becoming. I heard voices moving away from the door, so I decided to get
out of bed.

    "Aah jees Catherine, make noise to tell me you're still in the room," I said
jumping as I pulled off the covers. She sat down beside me and gave me a hug and
apologized for scaring me. I told her I felt bad that I wasn't there to pick her
up, but she told me it wasn't that big of a deal.

    "So, am I still suspended?" I asked. Catherine explained that the situation
has been taken care of, and we would discuss what that meant later, but yes, I
was still suspended for hitting a superior. I told her that I wanted to go see
my family while I was off, and that she was invited if she wanted to come.

    "We'll discuss it with Lindsay and see what she wants to do since she is off
for a week too," Catherine said giving me a kiss. I informed her that Lindsay
was all for the vacation as I explained that she came in while I was talking to
Lexie. I told her that Mom and Dad wanted to meet the girl that was making their
little girl happy.

    "Sara, did Mom say yes yet?" Lindsay asked bouncing into the room. I told her
what Catherine told me, and Lindsay stuck out her bottom lip and sad puppy dog
eyes until Catherine caved and told her we could go, but not right away.
Catherine said she wanted a couple days to get back her bearings from being at
the hospital. Lindsay and I agreed and both kissed her on the cheeks before
heading downstairs for breakfast.

    Lindsay took my hand as we went down the steps. I saw that Nancy and Lily
still had smiles on their faces. "What's so funny?" I asked. They showed me that
they took a picture of me with the monkey on my face. I tried to grab it, but
Catherine got it first saying that Lexie would love to see this as she tucked it
away in her pocket.

    I decided to try Lindsay's method of getting her way by pouting which made
everybody laugh. "Sorry Sara, but that only works for the seven year olds, not
that you don't look cute, but you're not getting the picture," Catherine said
kissing my bottom lip. Lily sat down my plate in front of me and whispered
thanking me for making her family happy again.

    I smiled, and Catherine tried to find out what her Mom said, but I told it
wasn't any of her business. After breakfast, I decided to take a shower. I
grabbed my bag from the bedroom and headed for the bathroom. I heard them
laughing downstairs and smiled realizing that I finally feel at home  in Vegas.

    I got dressed and headed downstairs to find Lindsay and Catherine sitting on
the couch with huge smiles on their faces. "What?" I asked knowing they have
something planned.

    "Not telling, but you have to come with us," Lindsay said taking my hand as
we went to the car.

CHAPTER 10

I can't believe they took me to the zoo. I haven't been to one since Rachel
and I took Hope for her fourth birthday. Catherine and I held hands while I
piggy backed Lindsay. She liked the tigers the best, she said they were very
beautiful animals.

    I told Catherine that I would pack and come back so we could get a head start
on our trip. Lindsay has been bouncing off the wall with excitement. Catherine
told me that Eddie seemed happy that he wouldn't have to take care of Lindsay.
Lily said that she would take care of my mail while we were gone.

    I put my bags and headed over to Catherine's. I bought some flowers on my way
over and picked up Lindsay a couple games for the trip. I pulled in the driveway
and saw that Lindsay was waiting for me. I saw her smiling face staring at me
through the window. I grabbed the flowers and games as I headed inside.

    She gave my legs a hug as I closed the door. "Mom is freaking out upstairs.
She doesn't know what to pack. See if you can help her out," Lindsay said
pushing me towards the stairs. I handed her the games before going upstairs. I
quuietly creep up the stairs hoping to surprise her. I stood in awe looking at
the mess that she made. There were clothes thrown all over the place.

    "Want some help?" I ask seeing her jump as I scared her.

    "Shit Sara, announce yourself before saying something," Catherine said
turning around. I pouted and showed her the flowers. She came over and gave me a
kiss. She explained that she was nervous about meeting my parents. I told that I
would help her pack after we cleaned up her mess.

    I had Catherine keep Lindsay busy while I made dinner. They didn't want
anything too heavy, so I decided on my famous banana pancakes with scrambled
eggs. Catherine asked where I learned to make them. I told her they were
something that Rachel made me for our anniversary. Lindsay motioned me down and
gave me a kiss on my cheek.

    After cleaning up, Lindsay wrangled us up to watch a movie before going to
bed. Lindsay pouted when Catherine sat between my legs. She ended up laying her
head in her mom's lap while Catherine ran her fingers through her hair.
Catherine leaned back against me while I wrapped my arms around her.

    I woke up in the middle of the night having to use the bathroom. When I
passed Catherine's room, I noticed she was tossing around in her bed. I walked
into her room and touched her shoulder. "Oh Sara, can you stay in here tonight?
I can't seem to get to sleep," she said. I nodded as she scooted over. I wrapped
my arm around her waist as she cuddled closer to me.

    "Mommy, have you seen Sara? She's not in her...Oh," Lindsay said as I turned
over. We moved over so we could explain how I ended up here. She gave us both
kisses before running back to her room. Catherine gave me a kiss and thanked me
for helping her sleep. I gave her a kiss before going back to my room to get
dressed.

~~~~~~~
    The trip went surprisingly well. Catherine slept most of the way, and Lindsay
kept herself entertained with her games. I have forgotten how beautiful it was
here. I know it's only been a couple months, but Vegas will all its' neon
doesn't compare with the sights out here. I notice Lexie's car in the driveway
as I pull in.
    I gave Catherine a kiss to wake her up. She opened her eyes and noticed that
we had arrived. I got out of the car, and Lexie ran over to give me a hug.
Lindsay walked over to me and looked shyly up at Lex. "Lindsay, this is my
sister Lexie. Lex, this is Catherine's daughter Lindsay," I said introducing
them.
    "So, you're the sweetheart that's been using my sister as a pillow," Lexie
said bending down to Lindsay's level.
    "She's really comfortable," Lindsay said as we all laughed. Catherine carried
Lindsay as Lexie and I grabbed the bags before heading inside. I noticed
Catherine looking a little freaked as we walked up the porch steps. I faced her
and gave her a kiss saying it was going to okay.
    Lexie opened the door, and I did all I could to hold back my tears. I dropped
my bags and walked into my mom's arms. I felt dad hug me from behind making me
feel safe. I kissed mom on the cheek as I pulled away from the embrace. I walked
over to Catherine and take her hand.
    "Mom, Dad, this is Catherine and her daughter Lindsay," I said smiling.
Catherine walked over to Mom and gave her a hug. I saw Mom whisper something in
Catherine's ear. I'll have to find out what she said later. Dad gave her his hug
after Mom was done. Lindsay stayed attached to my leg. I picked her up and
brought her over.
    We took our bags to the rooms they had for us. I took the one room while
Catherine and Lindsay shared the other. I was putting my things away when Mom
came in. "I'm glad you found someone to love you. Rachel would want you to be
happy, and Lindsay seems to feel safe around you," she said giving me another
hug.
    Dinner was spent with Lexie and my parents telling Catherine and Lindsay
stories about me. Mom and Lexie did the dishes while Catherine, Lindsay, and I
relaxed in the den. I made Lindsay happy by being the meat in a Willows
sandwich. Catherine whispered in my ear that my mom told her that I know how to
pick em. I smiled as I heard the ever famous camera. "Sorry Sara, but we need a
newer picture to show everyone of you," Mom said.
    I was getting comfortable when my phone vibrated. I excused myself to take it
in another room. It was Warrick telling me that someone trashed my apartment. He
knew I wasn't in town, but figured I needed to know. I walked back into the den
with a shocked look on my face. "What is it Sara?" Catherine asked coming over.
    "Somebody trashed my apartment," I said as Catherine wrapped me up in a hug.
CHAPTER 11
"Sara honey, what's going on?" Mom asked. I explained the phone call, and
they asked if I had any idea who would do such a thing. I lied saying I didn't
have any ideas, but Catherine knows who I suspect. I wouldn't have thought Gil
would be capable of this, but after his recent behavior, I'm not so sure. I told
them that we could talk more in the morning, but I was getting tired. Catherine
dropped me off outside my bedroom and was about to walk away when I grabbed her
arm.
    "Cath, can you stay with me tonight?" I asked. She gave me a kiss and told me
she would be right back after she got dressed for bed. After I changed, I was
looking out the window when I felt Catherine wrap her arms around me. She kissed
my neck and whispered in my ear that it was going to be okay. Catherine spooned
in behind me as we laid down. It must have calmed me because the next thing I
know is waking up still wrapped up in Catherine's arms.
    I knew Catherine was awake when she was rubbing her nose on my shoulder.
"Morning gorgeous," she said as I turned around to kiss her. She sat up in bed,
and I laid my head in her lap. She was running her fingers through my hair when
we heard a light knocking on the door. Before we had a chance to answer, Lindsay
peeked in and bounced into the room. She climbed on the bed and sat on the other
side of her mom when Lexie popped in.
    "Hey sis, comfy?" Lexie asked with a smirk. I was about to answer, but
Lindsay beat me to the punch. She told us that breakfast was ready which made
Lindsay jump off the bed and head to the kitchen with Lex. I made Catherine
laugh when I told her that Lindsay thinks with her stomach. Catherine went to
her room to change for breakfast. I waited for her so we could go together.
    "Catherine, after breakfast there is someplace I want to take you, and only
you," I said as I explained that I wanted to take her to see Rachel and Hope.
She told me that she wanted to talk it over with Lindsay before deciding. When
we made it to the kitchen, I saw that my parents were doting over Lindsay. I
whispered in Catherine's ear that if we spend too much time here, Lindsay won't
want to leave.
    Catherine and I were about to fix our plates when we were told to sit down.
Catherine pulled out my chair when we reached the table. Lindsay started to
giggle when she saw this. I gave her a wink as I sat down. Mom gave me a hug as
she came over and sat my plate down in front of me.
    After eating, I helped Mom with the dishes while Catherine asked Lindsay
about this morning. Hopefully, she'll understand. I just don't think this is
something Lindsay should have to deal with. Plus, it will give my family time to
spoil her. I explained to Mom what I wanted to do, and she said that she would
take care of Lindsay for us.
    Lindsay came into the kitchen and took my hand as she led me outside. "Sara
it's okay, you can take Mom," she said giving me a hug. I told that my mom was
going to take care of her, but I would make it up to her when we got back. After
hugging her back, I noticed that Mom and Catherine were standing in the doorway
smiling.
    We didn't talk any on the way to the cemetary which is okay I guess
considering I'm taking my new girlfriend to visit my wife and daughter's grave.
I decided to stop off at the florist on the way. Catherine came in with me and
helped pick out the arrangement. I was getting nervous the closer we got, and I
think Catherine picked up on this as she laid her hand on my shoulder.
    "Hey princess, doodlebug," I said as we made it to the stone. I cleaned up
around it before I placed the flowers. I sat down in front as Catherine sat
behind me wrapping her arms around me. I introduced them, and then started
telling stories about them. Catherine was telling me that Hope sounded a lot
like Lindsay when she was little. I started to cry, and Catherine hugged me
tighter whispering that she was going to take care of me.
    It started to rain, and Catherine tried to get us to the car as fast as
possible, but I slowed down telling her that I met Rachel in the rain. We slowly
walked back to the car hand in hand. Catherine decided to drive home figuring my
emotions could use a rest. I started laughing the closer we got to home knowing
Mom is going to freak out and go all mom on us for being soak and wet.
    The rain had stopped by the time we pulled in the driveway. As I predicted,
Mom told us to get out of our wet clothes after catching sight of us. I was
laughing all the way down the hall as Catherine was yelling at me to stop so we
wouldn't get yelled at anymore. She gave me a kiss before heading off to her
room.
    I laid down on the bed, and when I heard the door open I pretended to be
asleep. As I hear the door close, I figure it's probably Lindsay considering
Catherine would have called me on my faking. I felt the bed dip when Lindsay
climbed up. I felt her lay against me so I wrapped my arm around her which
caused her to scream.
    I fell off the bed as Lindsay's scream scared me. The door flew open, and I
looked over the bed and saw Mom and Catherine looking concerned. I explained
what happened, and they started laughing saying it karmic while Lindsay was
scowling at me. I guess I have to make up for this too.
    "I'm sorry for scaring you sweetie," I said giving her a hug. We laid back
down as I explained to her where I took her mom this morning. I gave her a kiss
on her head as she cuddled up into me. I must have fallen asleep because I woke
up with Lindsay sleeping on top of me. I was running my fingers through her hair
when she woke up.
    I noticed that we covered up which probably means we got our picture taken.
Mom has always taken pictures of anybody caught in funny situations. I carried
Lindsay into the living room where I found her and Catherine looking through
photo albums. "Hey sleepyheads, we would have woken you up, but you looked so
cute and comfortable," Catherine said smiling.
    I was going to respond, but I just gave her a kiss as I took Lindsay into the
kitchen to make us some lunch.
CHAPTER 12
The rest of the day was great. I took Catherine and Lindsay for a walk around
the ranch. Of course, Lindsay had to ride piggy back while Catherine and I held
hands, and after dinner, Mom, Lexie, and Catherine cleaned up while Lindsay went
to her room to play. I headed outside to think.
    I remembered waking up this morning and how safe I felt. I haven't felt that
protected since Rachel. I would love to sleep in Catherine's arms tonight, but I
don't want to upset Mom and Dad. Last night was different, and it would feel
disrespectful to do it their house. I hadn't realized that someone else had come
out until Dad sat beside me.
    "What's wrong Sara?" he asked putting his arm around me. I have never been
able to hide anything from him even when Rach and I were dating. Somehow, he was
able to see through my brave facade. I laid my shoulder and explain the
situation that I was worried about. After I finished, I looked into his hazel
eyes to see if I could get a bead on what he was going to say.
    "Sara, that woman in there loves you with all her heart. Your mom and I can
see that, and Lindsay thinks you're the best thing since ice cream. I told you
at the funeral that the day you married Rachel you became our daughter and
nothing is ever going to change that. So, if Catherine makes you feel protected
than we don't have a problem with you and Catherine sharing a room," he said
kissing my head as I broke down.
    He wrapped his arms around me and let me cry. I heard the front door open,
but I didn't hear any footsteps. Dad probably gave whomever it was his famous
not right now face, and they went back inside. He wipe my tears off my face when
I stop crying and asked if it would be okay if he talked to Catherine. I didn't
have a problem with it because I knew Catherine was going to get the same talk I
got when I started dating Rachel.
    I told him to send Lindsay outside when he saw her so I could talk to her. I
did my best to clean myself without a mirror because I didn't want to have to
explain to Lindsay why I have cry face. I ran my fingers through my hair and do
one last wipe of my eyes as I heard the front door open.
    "Sara, your dad said you wanted to talk to me," Lindsay said as I picked her
up and put her on my lap. I told her how I felt last night, and in true Lindsay
fashion, she didn't have a problem with Catherine and I sleeping in the same
bed. Actually, she was glad she didn't have to share a bed with her mom. I gave
her a kiss on the head as Catherine came out with a smile on her face. Lindsay
gave her mom a hug before heading back inside.
    She came over and offered me her hand. I took her hand as she led back into
the hoose. She led me back to the bedroom. She sat up in bed and sat me between
her legs. She laid her head on my shoulder and wrapped her arms around me.
"Thank you Cath, you have no idea what this means," I said turning my head to
kiss her.
    Catherine was telling me what my dad told her, and I told her it was the same
exact speech I got. We were laughing when Lindsay popped her head in. Catherine
waved her in as I told her what Lindsay said outside. Catherine told me her plan
as Lindsay climbed on the bed.
    I moved next to Catherine so Lindsay could sit between us. Catherine gave me
a wink as we started tickling Lindsay. Lexie looked in to see what the commotion
was all about. She smiled at me when our eyes met. I gave Catherine a kiss and
told I was going to take a shower before bed.
    I think about what's going on in Vegas. I know that this is just a vacation,
and that Catherine and I are going to have to go back and figure out what to do.
I don't even know if I want live at my apartment knowing that someone violated
it. I don't know if it was random or if it was Gil screwing with me.
    I stopped off in Lindsay's room before heading to mine. Catherine must have
just tuck her in because she lifted her head to see who it was. I gave her a
kiss on the forehead and whispered sweet dreams in her ear. She whispers in my
ear that she is lucky to have a two moms, a dad, a grandma, and an aunt who love
her.
    She wrapped her arms around my neck to hug me before I left. As I opened the
bedroom door, I was fighting not to cry after hearing what Lindsay called me.
Even in the dark, Catherine saw that I was glassy-eyed. I told her what Lindsay
said when I told her good night. She pulled back the covers as I laid down
beside her.
    Catherine spooned in behind me as I snuggled up against her as close as I
could get. Catherine kissed my neck as I started to fall asleep. When Catherine
and I woke up, we found a note beside the saying that my parents and Lexie took
Lindsay out for breakfast.
    I noticed that Catherine was still sleeping so I decided to make her
breakfast in bed. I scrambled her some eggs fried some bacon, and made her some
of my famous blueberry pancakes. I grab a flower and put it on the tray as I
headed back to the room. I lightly pushed the door open with foot and found that
Catherine was still sleeping.
    I leaned down and lightly kissed her lips. She went to continue as I pulled
away. I picked up the tray and sat it in front of her. I sat down beside her and
fed her breakfast. She tried to tell me that she could feed herself, but I
wasn't deterred. After complimenting them, she asked me if there wasn't a fruit
I could make taste great in a pancake.
    She gave me a kiss thanking me for a wonderful breakfast and that it was
delicious. We must have been really into kissing that we didn't hear everybody
else come home. "Ooh, the old breakfast in bed. Sara, you really know how to
spoil your girls," Lexie said as we separated. Mom came in and smacked her for
teasing me as she grabbed the food tray.
    Lindsay came in and told us about her going out to breakfast, and Catherine
whispered something in her ear as she gave her a kiss.
CHAPTER 13
The rest of the vacation was great. The day before we left, Lexie and I took
Lindsay to the park while my parents took Catherine shopping. Catherine decided
to drive home since I drove us here. I loved being back there, but I knew I had
to get back to work and find out why my apartment was trashed.
    When we got to Vegas, Catherine asked if I wanted to stop at my place, and I
told her I didn't want to deal with the mess besides I had clean clothes to
wear. As we pulled into the driveway, I noticed there was a police car across
the street, hopefully it is just for safety purposes. Catherine took sleeping
Lindsay in the house as I started grabbing some of the bags.
    When I walked in the door, Lily and Nancy were smiling nervously. I dropped
off the bags in their owner's room as Catherine laid Lindsay down. After
Catherine and I took care of the luggage, we headed for the living room to find
out why the house was being watched.
    I sat Catherine on my lap as we sat down in the chair. They both gave us a
strange look as we all just stared at one another. I don't know whether they are
waiting for us to explain our seating arrangements or they don't know how tell
what has been going on.
    "Okay, I'll say it. Why is there a police car outside the house?" I asked
breaking the uncomfortable silence. Nancy explained that Brass thought it might
be a good idea to keep an eye on us considering Catherine and I's relationship.
    "Enough about the bad stuff, you two have to explain why you look a lot
closer," Lily said smiling. Catherine gave me a kiss before telling them all
about me taking her to see Rachel and Hope to my parents giving us their
blessing. About this time Lindsay had woken up and walked in and told her
stories.
    After we finshed talking, Catherine decided we should go out to dinner. She
whispered in my ear she wanted me to wear my tight purple silk shirt. I headed
back to my room to find it. As I was looking for it, I came across a long felt
box. I opened it up and saw that it was a locket.
    "Go ahead open it," Catherine said standing in the doorway with a sweet smile
on her face. I opened it and on the one side was Rachel and Hope and on the
other was Catherine and Lindsay. I think Catherine saw that I was about to cry
because she came over and hugged me and explained that it was my parents idea.
She said they told her that it was good to see me happy again.
    "Mommy, is Sara okay?" Lindsay asked coming in. I showed her the present her
mom and my parents got me. She gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek before we
headed back to the living room. Lily and Nancy were smiling as we entered.
Catherine must have told them what I was going to find.
    After dinner, Nancy decided she was going home. Catherine told Lily she could
stay since we were going to sharing her room. She gave us a look, so Catherine
explained that we started sleeping in the bed after I found out my apartment.
She laughed telling us she was teasing. She said that we were two grown women
who have feelings for each other so it's fine with her.
    I grabbed my pajamas and headed for the bathroom to grab a shower.
Afterwards, I was waiting for Catherine to get done with hers because there was
something I needed to ask her. I was starting to nod off when Catherine came in
these dark purple pajamas that hugged just the right places. "Catherine, I want
to switch positions tonight. I want to wrap my arms around you," I said as she
came over and gave me a kiss.
    When I woke up the next morning, I found that my hand had made its way inside
her pajama top. I knew there was no way of getting it out without waking
Catherine up. I tried to fall back asleep, but considering I'm inches away from
my girlfriend's breasts, I can't. I feel Catherine stir so I decide to fake
sleeping.
    "You know Sara, maybe you should watch Lindsay more. She is better at faking
being asleep, you are just bad at it. Plus, your hand is inside my top,"
Catherine said giving my hand a kiss as she pulled it out. She rolled over and
gave me a kiss as Lindsay knocked on the door.
    "Is it safe to come in?" she asked through the door. We sat up in bed as
Catherine allowed her to come in. She climbed up and snuggled up to her mom. I
whispered in Catherine's ear that we should get Lindsay back for her comment
earlier. I got out of bed to go the bathroom. When I got back, I gave Catherine
a wink.
    I walked up to Lindsay like I was going to give her a kiss, but I started
tickling her. She tried to get Catherine to help her, but she ended up tickling
her too. I kissed her on the forehead as we stopped and sat her between us. I
was smiling thinking about what Catherine said earlier about my parents being
happy that I'm happy.
    "Sara, are you moving in with us?" Lindsay asked as I forgot how to breathe.
CHAPTER 14
I look dowm at Lindsay's loving eyes not really knowing how to answer her
question. I care about them both so much, but we haven't know each other all
that long. Although, we have shared some rather serious emotional issues. "I
don't know sweetie, we'll have to see," I said smiling.
    "Okay, I was just asking," Lindsay said smiling up at me. I gave her a hug
and kissed the top of her head when Lily knocked on the door. She informed us
that breakfast was ready if anyone was hungry. Before I got a chance to get up,
Lindsay climbed over me and ran down the hall.
    Catherine came over to other side of the bed and offered me her hand. We
walked downstairs, and Lindsay was smiling again when she saw us come into the
kitchen. After breakfast, I helped Lily with the dishes as we talked about
recent developments.
    The rest of the day went fast which is not surprising considering Catherine
and I were going back to work for the first time in a week. I still don't know
who's going to be running the shift considering Cath got Grissom transferred.
I'm figuring it's probably someone I'll butt heads since I been having a run of
good things happening.
    After dropping Lily and Lindsay off at Nancy's, Catherine and I headed for
the lab. As nervous as I am you would think it's my first day. When Catherine
parked the car, she took hold of my hand and whispered in my ear that everything
was going to be alright.
    "Meet me in the break room," Catherine said giving me a kiss before going
into her office. I walked down the hallway and turned into the room to find
Nick, Greg, and Warrick all smiling at me. One by one they all came up to give
me a hug. I headed for the coffee maker to pour Catherine and I a cup when I
heard the door open.
    I figure this is the new boss considering they're the only one not here
besides Catherine. I turn around and drop my cup of coffee. Catherine is
standing there with assignment slips in her hands. "Shit," I said as my coffee
mug smashes on the floor.
    "Sorry Sara, I thought it would be a nice surprise," Catherine said smiling,
trying not to laugh. I clean up the pieces of cup and wipe up the coffee while
Catherine gave Warrick and Nick their assignment. Catherine came over and handed
me the assignment that she wanted Greg and I to do.
    I told Greg I would meet him at the car. I walked over to Catherine and gave
her a kiss on the cheek. I whispered in her that I was happy for her and that we
would celebrate when we picked Lindsay up from school. I had Greg drive to the
scene while I called for flowers for Catherine. I was having a hard time with
the order because Greg was making kissy noises while I ordered Catherine's
favorite.
    When we got to the scene, Brass was waiting for us. He said that I looked
refreshed and happy. I smiled while he explained what the situation was. When we
got inside, I watched Greg as he got started. The guys did a good job training
him because he seems to know what he is doing.
    After getting back to the lab, I told Greg to get started while I explained
to Catherine what was going on. He made a crack about him solving the case
before I got back. I slapped him on the arm as I headed for Catherine's office.
I knocked on her door and opened it when she told me to enter. I entered the
room and saw that she got my flowers.
    I filled her in on the case and how Greg worked the scene. "I'm glad Greg is
getting along so well. Now I won't have to bring in somebody new because I don't
think we'd be a lucky as the last time," Catherine said smiling giving me a
wink. I turned my head and blinked back the tears that wanted to fall after
hearing what she said.
    I ran into Warrick on my way back to Greg. He told me that my apartment was
cleared, but that it was still an open case because they didn't find any
evidence as to who did it. As I was walked away, I thought that I'm not
surprised that they didn't find anything if it was Grissom that did it.
    I walked into the layout room where Greg had separated everything. I don't
think he heard me come in because I scared him when I touched his shoulder. He
informed that he took the prints to Jacqui and dropped off the DNA with the
pretty new tech. "Did you ask her out yet?" I asked teasingly.
    "Yes, but apparently she is more your type than mine," he said giving me a
wink. I punched him in the arm for his comment, and he apologized saying he was
just kidding. Catherine came in observing our interaction and asked what I
punched him for. Greg explained that he was teasing me about Julia, the new DNA
tech.
    With Catherine's help, Greg and I closed our case before the end of shift. I
dropped Catherine off and told her that I would be back after I grabbed a few
things from my place. She gave me a kiss before I pulled away. I told I should
be back in about an hour.
    I pulled up to my building and saw the cruiser sitting across the street. I
unlocked my door and headed inside. I looked around and the guys must have
cleaned up the best they could because the place was cleaned up, but there were
things a little out of place. I smiled when I saw the post-it that had a smiley
face on a picture of me with Rachel and Hope.
    I grabbed a few more changes of clothes and my mail before heading back to
Catherine's. I pulled into Catherine's driveway, and Lindsay came running out
giving me a hug. I grabbed my bag before picking her up and heading in the
house. Catherine greeted me with a kiss while Lindsay was making gagging noises
in my ear.
    I gave Lindsay a hug and kiss before Catherine took her to school. I decided
to sort through my mail to see what I needed to keep. I found an envelope that
didn't have a return address, but was addressed to me. I felt the envelope, and
it seemed only to be a letter. I opened it and unfolded the paper and all it
said was 'Soon'.
CHAPTER 15
I dropped the letter and pulled out my phone and called for a CSI to come to
Catherine's house. I went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water to help with
my case of dry mouth. I took small sips trying to calm my nerves.
    I was sitting at the kitchen table when I heard someone knocking on the door.
I went to the door and looked through the peephole. I saw that it was Sofia from
days. I opened the door and showed her to the table. I explained all I did when
I opened the letter.
    As Sofia was bagging the letter and envelope, Catherine came in with her gun
out. "Honey, it's okay. I just got some mail," I said getting up from the couch
and wrapping my arms around her. Sofia told us that she would leave a copy of
the report on Catherine's desk with her findings.
    Catherine was getting dressed for bed while I grabbed a shower. I let the
warm water melt the days stress away. I knew as long as I wasn't alone, I would
be safe from whoever was stalking me. I got dressed and headed for Catherine's
room. I opened the door and she was looking at me with this stupid smile on her
face.
    "What?" I asked climbing into bed. She just smiled as she spooned against me
wrapping her arms around me. I kissed her hand before I closed my eyes. When the
alarm went off, I found that Catherine's hand had ended up on my breast. I tried
to turn off the alarm, but her grip on it was a little firm.
    "Are you going to shut it off or do you like the constant beeping?" Catherine
asked. I touched her hand showing her why I couldn't exactly turn over. She gave
it a light caress before letting go as I finally shut off the alarm. I turned
over and gave Catherine a kiss, and then whispered in her ear that I needed to
take another shower to cool off.
    "Sara, I don't want you to feel pressured, but I would love to make to love
to you," Catherine said giving me a passionate kiss.
    "Catherine, you have no idea how much I want to, but I wanted to wait until
you were ready," I said kissing her back.
    Catherine and I got dressed and headed for Lindsay's school. I held her from
behind leaning against the car as we waited. She came walking out with a tired
look on her face until she saw us. She smiled as she ran up to her Mom and I.
    Before going home, we grabbed some ice cream and headed for the park.
Catherine laid her head on my shoulder as we watched Lindsay play. Catherine was
rubbing her thumb on the top of my hand when Lindsay came over to sit beside me.
I took both my girls' hands as we headed back to the car.
    When we got home, I helped Lindsay with her homework while Catherine started
some laundry. Catherine gave us both milk as I was explaining the story problems
to her. I remembered back when I was in school, that I hated story problems too,
but now they are a little easier. After we finished, Lindsay headed to her room
while I decided to join Catherine in the living room.
    I saw that she was looking through my pile of mail. She seemed to be sorting
it. I walked in and sat down on the couch when she handed me a letter from my
parents. I opened it up and found two pictures of me, Catherine, Lindsay, Mom,
Dad, and Lexie. I opened up the letter and it read:
Sara,
    I know I should have gotten these pictures developed while you were here, but
then I wouldn't have been able to write you. Here are two copies of all of us.
One for you and one for that beautiful woman of yours. Please feel free to visit
whenever you like.
Love always,
Mom
    I smile as I hand Catherine the letter. She turns to me and gives me a kiss.
We were so into kissing one another that we didn't here Lindsay come back into
the room. I heard her humming the kissing in the tree song which made me laugh
while I was still kissing Catherine.
    "What's so funny, am I doing it wrong?" Catherine asked as I burst into
laughter. She then straddled my legs and started tickling me. I was trying to
push her off, but since I was sitting on one of my legs, I didn't have enough
leverage to push her off.
    I decided to make dinner for Catherine as my way of congratulating her for
the promotion. I even got Lindsay to help by keeping her Mom busy while I was
cooking. I made a nice vegetable lasagna for Catherine and I, but I made Lindsay
a small regular lasagna. I know she likes to eat some vegetables, but there were
a couple that she didn't in mine.
    After cleaning up, Catherine and I relaxed on the couch while Lindsay got her
stuff ready for tonight. She told me that she wanted me to be careful at the
crime scenes in case my stalker was lurking around. I kissed her hand and told
her that I was always careful and looked around at all my scenes.
    When we got to work, I headed off to grab a cup of coffee while Catherine
went to her office for tonight's agenda. There were only two cases so Greg
thought it would be funny to make it boys against girls. As the guys left,
Catherine handed me the file Sofia left on her desk.
CHAPTER 16
Sara's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    Last night sucked. First, there was no DNA on the envelope or letter, and
then Catherine and I's case was a slam dunk. I think she can see the frustration
on my face as we're heading home. She is trying to get me to talk, but I'm not
really in the mood. As soon as we got home, I headed for my room.

    I heard Lindsay asking her mom if I was okay. She told that last night was a
little hard on me. I kicked off my shoes and climbed into bed. I really want to
let Catherine help, but with everything going on, I just want a little space.

    I was close to sleeping when I heard the cocking of a gun. I turned towards
the noise, and then everything went black. As I come to, I notice that one of my
eyes is swollen shut. I try to clear the cobwebs when I hear a voice. "Hello
Sara," Grissom said angrily.

~~~~~~~~~~
Cath's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    I can't believe she won't let me in. I thought we had worked through her
doing things by herself phase. I told Lindsay everything will be fine by the
time we pick her up. I notice that the front door is open when I pull into the
driveway.

    I head over to check on the officer and notice him knocked out in his car. I
called in for backup as I pulled out my weapon before heading into the house. I
honestly don't care about policy as I begin to look around the house. There
seems to be nothing out of place in the living room or kitchen. I headed
upstairs and noticed Sara's door was open.

    I open the door with my foot and see the blood on the pillow. I hear the
calvary enter the house as I try to swallow back the tears that want to come
out. "Upstairs," I said loud enough to get them up the stairs. When Warrick
walked up to me, I lost it.

~~~~~~~~~~
Sara's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    I hate tasting my own blood. I been listening to Grissom's ramblings about
how I ruined his life followed by a couple smacks. He's trying to play with my
past fears, and all I can think of is how shitty I treated Catherine this
morning. For some reason, I find myself smiling. "What's so funny?" Grissom
asks.

    "Just picturing Catherine kicking your ass," I said laughing. I don't think
he found it funny because I got backhanded. Then he started in on that I was not
going to be found until they found the body. That sort of took the wind out of
my sales.

    He ended going back to his rantings about how he thought everything was going
to be fine when I came here. Apparently, he was interested in going out with me
knowing that I have dated guys before, but he was waiting for me to get
acclimated to Vegas before asking.

~~~~~~~~~~
Cath's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    Warrick took me over to my sister's while the others looked for evidence. Mom
is sitting with me in bed trying to get me to fall asleep. I can't believe I
left her alone this morning. I should have forced the issue, but I didn't want
upset her more.

    "Lindsay!" I yelled realizing I don't know what I'm going to tell her. Nancy
and Mom came running in trying to find out what the problem was. I tried to
explain that I didn't know how I was going to Lindsay. Nancy said that we would
handle it together.

    Mom got me back to sleep by singing to me like she did when I was younger. I
woke up when I heard the bedroom door open. I saw the look of worry on Lindsay's
face when she came in. I know I have to stay strong for her so I pat the bed
beside me. "Linds, there is something I have to tell you about Sara," I said.

~~~~~~~~~~
Sara's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    I don't know how many times I've passed out. I wish he would just put me out
of my misery instead I have to listen to his constant rantings as I feel
something vibrating against my thigh. I look down and find that I still have my
cell phone.

    "I hope you told Catherine and Lindsay how you felt about them the last time
you saw them because that is the last thing you will ever say to them," Grissom
spewed as I let loose with a nice 'Fuck off' which of course earned me another
smack.

    I started laughing again, and he asked me what was humorous about this
situation. "Gil, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think you have
the follow through to finish this," I said spitting in his face. He wiped his
face and pulled out his gun. I thought to myself 'I will always love you
Catherine' as I closed my eyes.

    "Freeze"
~~~~~~~~~~
Cath's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    Lindsay had the same exact response I had. I rocked her telling her that it
was going to be okay. I finally got her calmed down enough that she was asleep.
I saw Mom and Nancy looking at us in the doorway with sad expressions on their
faces.

    I heard Nick talking to Warrick about finding Sara. I hopped out of bed
waking up Lindsay, but I ran out to find out what's up. Apparently, Sara still
has her phone on her and they traced its whereabouts. I saw Lindsay come out of
the room just as Nick said that.

    "Mommy, bring Sara home," she said as I walked up and gave her a hug. On the
way, Brass told me that I waiting in the car. I proceded to tell him to 'Fuck
off'. He was going to have to shoot me to keep me out of there.

    "Freeze," Brass said as Gil raised his gun to Sara's head.

CHAPTER 17

Sara's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    I can barely recognize any of the voices with my head pounding the way it is.
Although, I can hear Grissom telling Brass to leave before he paints the walls
with my brain matter. I hear the people getting closer behind me and decide I
have to do something.
    I open my eyes as much as I can and see that Gil is not paying attention to
me. I know this is probably going to hurt, but I need to help out the situation.
I keep watching Grissom and notice that his mental stabilty is getting worse, so
I throw all of my weight to one side and tip the chair over.
    I hear a pop and couple gun shots as I land on the floor. The next thing I
hear are people running towards me. I feel myself being place back upright and
untied. Catherine comes around to the front of the chair and gives me a light
kiss on the lips. "Catherine, you look like shit," I said smiling, I think.
    "Well, we all can't be as beautiful as you," she says giving me another kiss.
The pain of my shoulder is excruciating as they untie my arms. Catherine takes
off her jacket and makes a make shift sling until the EMTs get here. I want to
get up, but Catherine tells me to sit still.
    I can hear the other guys talking, but I think they are giving Catherine and
I are space. I notice that Catherine is starting to cry, and I cup her chin with
my good hand and tell her it is going to be okay. I hear the sirens getting
closer and figure my ride is here.
    "Catherine, call Lindsay and tell her to get your mom or Nancy to bring her
to the hospital," I said as she pulled out her phone. One of the paramedics came
up and saw that my shoulder was separated, and to distract me Catherine gave me
a kiss as he popped it back in place.
    His partner wheeled over the stretcher and they help me onto it. i told them
that Catherine was coming with me in the ambulance. I saw her talking to the
guys while they placed me inside. She gave Brass a hug before running to join
me. I think everything has finally gotten to me because I was asleep when we
arrived at the hospital.
    I heard them tell Catherine to stay in the waiting room until I'm put in my
own room. I don't exactly want her to leave my side, but I know she can't be
with me while I'm being poked, prodded, and x-rayed.
Cath's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    I can't believe I had to shoot Gil. He was the one who helped me get this
job. But then again, this Gil wasn't the same man I knew. I am still in shock
that Sara threw herself onto the floor to take her out Gil's line of fire which
gave Brass and I the opportunity to take him out.

    "Mommy," Lindsay yelled as I looked up to see that Mom and Nancy brought her.
I kneeled on the ground and hug Lindsay tightly. I pick her and head over
towards my family.

    "How is she?" Mom asked as I explained the extent of her injuries. I was
telling them what happened when the doctor came out and asked for Sara's family.
Before I got a chance to answer, Mom stood up and said that we were Sara's
family. I picked up Lindsay as we headed for Sara's room.

Sara's POV
~~~~~~~~~~
    I've been told besides my separated shoulder, the only other major injury is
a concussion. I am thrilled when they tell me that I should only have to spend
one night here. I tell them I will only stay as long as Catherine can stay with
me. They tell me it is against policy, but if it will make me more comfortable
they'll allow it.
    I see the door opening and smile when I see Catherine holding Lindsay, and
Lily and Nancy following behind them. I can't believe my luck, my home life
growing up suck, but now I have two families that love me as one of their own. I
see Lindsay looking like she is going to start to cry. "Lindsay sweetie, it's
okay. I'm fine," I said patting the space in bed beside me.
    Catherine puts her in bed with me, and I wrap my arm around her as Catherine
gives me a kiss. Lily and Nancy come over and give me hugs. I decide to tell
them that I would like to move in with Catherine, but I would keep my apartment
until my lease runs out in case Catherine and I want to be alone.
    Catherine told me I had to take a week off plus talk to the lab shrink. I was
going to protest until she whispered in my ear that she would make it up to me.
The nurse came in and told us that visiting hours were over, and Catherine was
about to leave when the nurse told her she could stay.
    After they left, I scooted over in bed and had Catherine join me. The day
must have finally gotten to her because she fell asleep as soon as she laid her
head on my shoulder. I kissed the top of her head as I turned off the light
before falling asleep myself.
CHAPTER 18
~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 year later
~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I can't believe the year that Catherine and I have had. I moved in with her
and Lindsay shortly after my kidnapping. We got married six months ago, and I
found out today that the procedure worked and that Catherine and I are going to
be parents.
    Lindsay wouldn't let me tell her mom without her being there. I know
Catherine wouldn't like that I brought her, but after the news I tell her. I
don't think it will be a problem. When we are passing Greg's lab, he knocks on
the window to get our attention.
    "You know Catherine is going to kill you that you brought Lindsay to the
lab," he said. I whispered in his my good news and if he leaked it I would make
his life a living hell. He informed me that Catherine was at a scene right now,
but should be back shortly.
    I held Lindsay's hand as we headed to Catherine's office. We ended up sitting
down on the couch as we waited for her to get back. Lindsay said she was getting
tired, so I had her lay her head in my lap as she stretched out. I covered her
with my coat in case she got cold.
    I must have fallen asleep because I woke up to Catherine giving me a kiss. I
opened my eyes to a slightly filthy version of my wife. "What the hell happened
to you?" I asked trying not to laugh. She smacked me in the arm before telling
me she took a header into a muddy hillside.
    "I'm guessing you have big news if you broke the rule about bringing  Lindsay
to the lab," she said as I nudged Lindsay awake. Lindsay sat in her mom's lap as
I told Catherine that we were going to have a baby. Catherine gave me another
kiss before telling me to head to the break room.
    By the time we get there, the guys are sitting around the table smiling. I
lead Lindsay to the couch as we await Catherine's appearence. Lindsay starts to
fall asleep again, and I realize what a bad idea bringing her might have been. I
smile when I see Catherine come back in looking cleaner.
    "Sara and I want you guys to be the first to know that we are going to be
parents," Catherine announced as everyone turned smiling at me. Shortly after my
kidnapping, I told the guys about Rachel and Hope so they know what a big deal
this is. They tell us that if we need anything at any time do not hesitate to
call.
    The guys gave us their congratulations as Catherine carried Lindsay out to
the car for me. I gave her a kiss before I drove away. On the way home, I
realize I need to call my parents and tell them the good news. Shortly after
getting married, I discussed with them my want to have another baby. They told
me they would support me in whatever I chose.
    When I got home, I carried Lindsay to the house, but when I got to the door
it opened. I walk inside to find my parents, Lexie, and Nancy with Lily standing
by the door. "What are you guys doing here?" I asked feeling I have been had.
Lily took Lindsay from me as Nancy came to me.
    She informed that Catherine had told my family about the appointment, and
they came to Vegas to give me whatever support I needed. I asked if they knew
the outcome of my test, but Nancy told me they didn't. I headed for the kitchen
to get a glass of water to wait until Lily came back downstairs.
    "Sara, are you okay?" Lexie asked giving me a hug. I nodded and gave her a
kiss on the cheek as I saw Lily come back in the room. I wrapped my arm around
her shoulder as we walked into the living room. I sat down on the couch between
Mom and Lex while everyone started to stare at me.
    "I know Catherine isn't here, but we would like you guys to know that I am
pregnant," I said as Lex gives me another hug. Mom and Dad both gave me a hug
and kiss as I headed over to see Lily and Nancy. They gave me a hug together
offering me their congratulations.
    We spent a couple hours talking, and I found out that my parents were going
to stay in town and help out however they can. Lex said she would come whenever
work got slow, but would definitely be back for the birth. I started to yawn,
and Mom and Lily decided that it was time for them to go.
    After locking up, I took a shower. I was heading to our bedroom when
Lindsay's door opened and asked if she could sleep with me. She took my hand,
and I led her inside. As I climb in bed, Lindsay snuggled up against me as I
smiled realizing that I now have something that I thought I would ever find
again.
